I made a trip to Trader Joe’s this afternoon to pick up some of my favorite Whole30-friendly foods. Trader Joe’s has tons of awesome compliant things from produce to pantry items to frozen foods and more.
My first tip is not to go to Trader Joe’s at 2 p.m. on a Sunday, especially not when you’re feeling sick. It was a madhouse. I have to give it to Trader Joe’s though. They are always more than adequately staffed and constantly restocking the shelves. The only thing I couldn’t find that I wanted was cauliflower rice and that’s something I can get over. ๐
Trader Joe’s Whole30 Haul
I know you guys love to see grocery hauls from time-to-time and I get a lot of search engine traffic for “Trader Joe’s Whole30” so I thought it would be helpful to share what I bought today. It was a big trip!
Starting at the left and moving to the right…
- Frozen cherries (I like to put them on chia pudding)
- Organic cauliflower
- Riced broccoli
- Organic arugula
- Kombucha (super reasonably priced at TJs)
- Unsweetened dried cherries
- Canned pink Alaskan salmon and canned tuna
- Frozen semi-dried figs
- Cruciferous Crunch (for both salads and sauteing)
- Broccoli slaw (to use as a base for things like spaghetti, salsa chicken, etc)
- A bag of organic pears
- Asian stir fry veggies (to use in coconut curry)
- Fennel
- Frozen cod
- Strawberries
- Organic Pink Lady apples
- Tangelos
- Cashew butter
- Almond butter
- Coconut water
- Yogi ginger tea (my most favorite ginger tea)
- Ghee (clarified butter…great deal at TJs)
- Coconut oil spray
- Baby zucchini
- Eggplant
- Limes
- Avocado
- Organic lemons
- Sweet onions
- Organic garlic
- Organic rainbow carrots
- Plantain chips (my favorite Whole30-approved “salty snack” that really isn’t “encouraged” in the program rules but…don’t care! ๐ )
- Spaghetti squash
- Golden raisins
- Hearts of palm
- Artichoke hearts
- Organic potatoes
And I didn’t get these two things today but I love the Trader Joe’s Chicken Italian Sausage as an easy protein option to have on hand and they also have great prices on smoked salmon.
This Week’s Dinner Menu
Sunday: red coconut curry with chicken, eggplant and stir fry veggies served over broccoli “rice” (I didn’t follow a recipe for this but now that so many of you have asked on Insta, I will post it this week…look for it on Wednesday!)
Monday: leftover coconut curry
Tuesday: Ina’s Perfect Roast Chicken and I’ll roast it over a mix of fennel, potatoes, carrots, turnips and onions
Wednesday: cabbage rolls stuffed with ground pork (I think…this might also turn into some sort of pork meatball and spaghetti squash thing)
Thursday: Chipotle Shrimp with Radish and Jimica Salad
Friday: steak with sauteed mixed garlic mushrooms, crash hot potatoes and a veggie
Saturday: leftovers or TBD
Any new Trader Joe’s faves to share?
What’s on your dinner menu this week?
I was so excited when they started selling that kombucha because it really is a great price!
I’m a fan of plantain chips and absolutely LOVE the TJ’s brand! They are actually the best ones I’ve tried in the U.S.
And believe me, I’ve tried many! ๐
I love TJ… they have sweet plantain chips that are my favorite.. Also love dry banana and mangos unsweetened of course.. The best thing
Wish I had tjs in my state. So jealous of the fennel, my fav!
We’ve been loving RX Bars and Chomps Meat Sticks for snacks from TJ’s!
I’m on my second week of Whole30, here are my planned meals for the week:
Sunday- Grilled Rosemary Lamb Chops with Roasted Asparagus
Monday- Spicy Shrimp and Asparagus over Zoodles
Tuesday- One Pot Mexican Chicken Stir Fry
Wednesday- Slow Cooker Picadillo over Cauliflower Rice
Thursday- Soft Boiled Eggs and Sweet Potato Hash
Friday- Salmon Picatta with Green Beans and Cauliflower Mash
Saturday- Balsamic Beef Roast and Veggies
Thank you for this! I am on day ONE and a bit unprepared. It is so helpful to have this visual.
I have a hardcore obsession with Trader Joe’s organic cauliflower rice! I may or may not have purchased 11 bags of it yesterday… best Whole30 find ever!
Thanks for sharing this, I do a Whole30 at least every January (this is my 4th) and love getting more ideas. I totally agree that your subsequent whole30s are easier, in a way. I read your recent post and just wanted to share that in my experience, I thought my second Whole30 was coming along nicely, but I really just wasn’t being such a stickler for the rules without realizing it. For example, that coconut oil spray at TJs has soy in it ๐ You just forget that so many products have fillers or sugar that is not allowed. I know you can make the Whole30 what you want, like I do cut out my beloved plantain chips even though the ingredients are safe because I specifically want to work on my craving and binging during my elimination. But maybe if you’re still struggling with skin issues and stuff in the next week or so you can cut out some of those more hidden noncompliant things. My thought is, if I’m doing this for 30 days, I’m REALLY doing this for 30 days.
Good luck! Again thanks for sharing such amazing content.
