Happy Wednesday! I missed posting last night because we were busy having a birthday extravaganza for my mother in law. We didn’t make it to bed until midnight. When my alarm went off at 5:15 this morning I definitely had one of those, “Where am I? What day is it? Where do I have to be?” moments! I managed to get myself moving and over to Flex + Fit to teach yoga with weights. And then I drank a lot of coffee. 😛
Last night was totally worth the lack of sleep. We surprised my mother in law with a limo and a night out on the town! She thought we were just having a casual dinner at Myers Park Country Club. We met for drinks on the patio at 6:30.
She honestly had no idea that anything was up.
The limo was set to arrive at 7 so we wrapped up cocktail hour and convinced her to walk out front. She was shocked to see the limo! We all piled in and swung by their house so she could do a quick outfit change. Champagne was popped.
And the festivities began!
The plan was to hit two up two restaurants for appetizers and drinks and then wrap things up with a third stop for dessert.
The first restaurant was George’s Brasserie.
George’s is one of my favorite restaurants in Charlotte. We ordered a few appetizers for the table – mussels, calamari, cheese plate and “Frenched” wings. And of course lots of bread for dipping in the white wine sauce that came with the mussels. The best part!
Downtown seemed like a must for our celebration tour.
We arrived at the EpiCentre and a photo shoot ensued.
We went to Mez where we enjoyed city views and another round of appetizers and drinks.
This time around we ordered a pancetta flat bread, Mediterranean dip with pita and olives and cheese wontons. I love the vibe at Mez!
Our driver was awesome and always prompt. We loaded back in the limo for our final stop.
Amelie’s for dessert…I was in heaven!
I ordered two mini tarts (chocolate raspberry and lemon raspberry) and a coffee. I also had more than a few samples of everyone else’s pastries too. I just couldn’t help myself! 😳
The limo dropped us off back at the club. Everyone was sad to see the night come to an end but it was a huge success! Yay for birthdays, limos, fun times and family!
Have you ever rented a limo? What was your favorite limo experience!? They remind me of prom…even though my friends never rented one for prom…
Looks like a fun night 🙂
I seriously don’t think I’ve ever had a night out like that. Very stylin!
What a fun evening out! Great idea! Your inlaws are so cute 🙂
What an exciting night!
The Mez looks really glamorous and limo was such a nice touch 🙂
P.S. Also wanted to mention that I am really looking forward to your weight training videos/posts. Especially Toned Arms 101 🙂
appreciate the gentle nudge! 😉
Yay for fun! I must try George’s…maybe our next double date night? xoxox
Love your dress!! Where’s it from?
anthropologie…but a few years ago! 🙂
What a fun way to celebrate a birthday! It looks like everyone had a great time. I think the last time I took a limo somewhere was for my senior prom…but a night on the town looks much more exciting!
Oh my gosh, what a wonderful celebration! Your MIL is so adorable & she looks SO YOUNG!
she is awesome!
What a fun night for your mother in law! Looks like Charlotte is the city to be in. How’s the weather down there in October? 😉
We surprised my grandparents for their 50th wedding anniversary back in ’06. We got a limo and went to Fleming’s Steakhouse in Boston for dinner. Such a fun night! I love limo’s.
the weather is awesome in october…why, are you planning a visit!!!!!???? i really hope so!
that sounds like such a sweet anniversary celebration!
I might! If my plans for California fall through, I’m thinking about going to Charlotte. Flights on Jet Blue are pretty inexpensive! 🙂 Would you like a visitor? 🙂
This is a GREAT idea!!
Love your dress 🙂
thanks! 🙂
Oh I love mid-week celebrations! How sweet of yall to do that for your MIL. Limos, apps and drinks are a fabulous way to celebrate a birthday! 🙂
OMG what a great idea!! I love this and I haven’t heard of Georges yet! I definitely need to check it out. I love Amelie’s and those tarts look fab.
erin – you must check out george’s! it’s so delicious. they have the BEST mussels if you like them…all of their food is incredible!
Hi Jen!
I just found your blog from Matt’s and love it!
What a great night out, looks like you had so much fun and the pictures are wonderful 🙂
The first time I went in a limo was for my friend’s sweet 16 birthday. We went into Boston, had dinner and saw Mamma Mia on broadway! Such a fabulous night
I look forward to future posts 😀
hi tessa – thank you so much for checking out my blog. matt was so sweet to select me as his featured blogger this week. love him!
mamma mia would be such a fun show to see!
I just found your blog from your guest post on Matt’s! Can’t wait to keep reading :). You are gorgeous! We rented a limo for my senior prom…it was so much fun :). Oh, and I’m doing my first ever giveaway…feel free to check it out!
lindsay- thank you so much for stopping by! matt is awesome – so glad he featured me this week! 🙂
Just read your post on TAP blog. I loved that you said you feel a shift into more yoga and stuff…I feel that way as well in many ways. I know I’d like to change my own name and domain soon – but I always wonder/worry/told that I’d lose a lot of readers…plus I have no idea what my focus would be – or what to call it!! I always go back and forth with names 😉
i have pretty much decided that the name just doesn’t matter. people know me as peanut butter runner and i still love to run even if yoga is my main focus right now. i think that people who read my blog regularly aren’t here for the running! 😉
thank you so much for stopping by! matt is awesome!
Hi! Just found your blog through Matt’s and I love it. 🙂 I’ve been thinking about yoga teacher training myself and kind of going through the same feelings as you. Everyone says it’s too much right now (cost, time, etc), but when will it not be?!? LOL It’s also encouraging to see you’re doing it with a full time job because I’d be doing the same.
casey – thanks so much for stopping by and commenting! please email me if you have any questions about teacher training. i have quite a few posts about my experiences with it and how i made the decision to go through it. if you go to “my favorite posts” they’re under “yoga teacher training.”
basically, it was the BEST thing i have ever done for myself. completely, 100% life changing.
That looks like an awesome night!! 🙂
