I have been in such a weird place lately with my workouts and eats. My body is all off. I woke up sick on Saturday morning and ended up spending a chunk of my day at urgent care. The wait was 2.5 hours! The good news? They will let you leave and call you when it’s getting close to your turn so I was able to go home and rest while I waited to see the doctor.
I ate a honey wheat bagel with maple walnut cream cheese for breakfast.
And frozen yogurt for lunch while I was waiting on my prescriptions. It was beautiful, sunny and 70 degrees here on Saturday and Menchie’s just happened to be a short walk away from the pharmacy.
I knew that my frozen yogurt lunch was meant to be when I walked in and saw “I like peanut butter” on the chalk board. 😉
I spent the remainder of my afternoon napping and trying to feel better.
I did manage to put together a relatively healthy dinner. Baked sweet potato, sautéed spinach, baked salmon with TJs Island Soyaki Sauce and 9-grain toast with butter. A bit of a step up from carbs and frozen yogurt, huh?
I spent my Sunday teaching yoga, meeting a friend for coffee + lunch, baking and cleaning.
I was kind of over baking cookies so I started flipping through some of my cookbooks for inspiration. I saw a recipe for Maple Oatmeal Scones in the cookbook that Alaina brought me when she visited, Flour.
The scones turned out so delicious! The batter features oats, dried cranberries and maple syrup and the baked scones are topped with a maple glaze. These are seriously addictive. They’re slightly crunchy on the edges but soft on the inside. I may or may not have eaten two this afternoon.
I planned on taking a rest day today to try and continue to recover but I got major cabin fever. I went to the Y right before they closed and squeezed in an easy 30 minutes on the treadmill. I think I was one of the last people to leave. It was kind of strange since this Y is always crazy crowded.
Hope it’s been a great weekend!
Urgent care’s are no fun. I hope you feel better soon!!
I was so shocked that this one let you leave and then called you when it was time for you to go back. SO much better than sitting in a waiting room for 2 hours. Thanks for the well wishes. Have a good day!
I hope you’re feeling better!
Thanks Matt! Hope that you have a better week this week.
I have been feeling off since the holidays have been over. I don’t think my body was used to those kinds of foods! Feel better!
I hear you! Sometimes when you get so out of routine with your eating style and workouts, it can be difficult to get back on track and feeling good. Hope you feel back to normal soon!
I know how you are feeling about the sickness! I’ve kind of had that for a week now so just starting to get over it. I hope this week you feel better! Those scones look seriously amazing…I want.
Oh boo. I hope you are feeling better too! The scones are INCREDIBLE. I need to post the recipe.
Hope you’re feeling better! I understand about the cabin fever and having to get in a good workout. Be careful, though. The gym’s probably one of the most dangerous places to be when sick! :S
Yikes! That is so true. I didn’t even think about it!
Those scones fabulous! I love maple syrup in oatmeal to those seem like a natural. I know people are sick of cookies this time of year, but I just made Deb’s nutmeg maple butter cookies from Smitten Kitchen. Delicious!
i liked using the maple syrup as a sweetener instead of sugar. it’s different and you’re right, oats and maple syrup are a great combo.
Those cookies sound amazing. I enjoy SK so much!
Cabin fever is the worst! In hit my hard in the early weeks of having Hailey. I hope you get to feeling better soon!
Menchie’s has the power to make anyone feel better…at least temporarily 😉
Yeah! I’m glad the recipe came out well! I’ll probably have to buy that cookbook myself. 🙂
Hope you feel better!!
My first thought when you werent feeling well AND ate chik-fil-a was “i bet she’s pregnant!” 🙂
Anyway…i know you know this but REST! you will get over your sickness for good muuuch quicker if you let yourself rest. I know its hard but its worth it!
hahahaha…so NOT pregnant! 🙂 🙂 🙂
i know. i am the worst rester ever!
I’ve been battling a cold for the last week. I went for a run yesterday in an attempt to ‘flush my system’. I was a snotty mess (sorry for the TMI), but it totally worked.
totally not TMI. workouts help “clear me out” a lot of times too! gets that blood flowing and things draining. 😉
Your new shoes look cute (in the last photo)!
thanks! loving them!!! 🙂
I’m so sorry to hear you weren’t feeling well, Jen! I think it can be hard to adjust after the holidays.. such a flurry of activity throws your mind and body off. I’ve felt the need to do a lot more yoga because of that! I hope this week goes better for you. xoxo
Maple is my favorite flavor, so your maple walnut cream cheese and maple glaze on the scones are making me drool!
the scones are SO good. i’m posting the recipe in the next day or two!
Hope you get to feeling better… that is amazing how your Urgent Care calls you!! Take care of yourself! You inspired me… I baked some cookies today for the game 🙂
Those scones look AMAZING! Wondering if you’d consider posting the recipe here or on Bakin’ and Eggs?
yes! i shot them today and i will get the recipe up in the next day or two. they are so good – one of the best things i’ve baked in a while!
