Good morning! I sure do wish that every Sunday morning looked like this…coffee with a view!
My beach routine goes a little like…sleep in, coffee and computer on the balcony, smoothie, more coffee and computer, workout, shower, beach. It’s pretty amazing.
As most of you know if you’ve been reading any length of time, I do like to workout when I am on vacation. It feels good to get my body moving after spending so much time horizontal (in bed and on my beach chair!). I usually default to running but I’m lucky here to have a gym on site, a yoga mat at my parent’s place and a few local gyms and CrossFit boxes that I occasionally visit. Still…I usually default to running! Quick and efficient.
Here’s a look at this week’s workouts. Definitely scaled back due to my trip but active is active so I’m happy with it!
Monday
Hot Yoga
Tuesday
3 mile run
Wednesday
3.3 mile run
Traveled to the beach this day and hit the road to stretch out my legs after a long day of sitting. I love running at the beach…flat and sweaty!
Thursday
3.3 mile run
Friday
BodyPump
I visited a local Gold’s Gym for a BodyPump class. The class was great but the facility left a little to be desired. It was a little grungy and the group exercise room was carpeted. When I asked about mats, the girl next to me said that they usually just lay on the carpet and “pray there’s no bacteria hanging out.” 😳
While I was so happy to be doing BodyPump (it was my first class in months!), I am not down with gyms that aren’t clean/sanitary. I am really, really spoiled by Metro in Charlotte.
In other news, I think I’ll be remembered as “the girl who showed up at 8 a.m. looking like a pink highlighter…”
Saturday
4.5 mile run + 2 mile beach walk + mini golf
Mini golf totally counts as a workout right? Proud to report that I was the champion of the mini golf tournament. Given my hand/eye coordination…no one had their money on me. 😉
Sunday
Yoga by the pool + maybe some weights or a quick travel WOD
What’s your favorite vacation workout?
Are you good or terrible at mini golf? (My mini golf game is much like my bowling game…usually pretty terrible!)
Looks like you had a relaxing and beautiful vacation! I love your pink highlighter outfit 😉 I love doing bodyweight workouts on vacation, which often involve lots of burpees— my fave.
Congrats on taking the mini golf win!!
I absolutely love burpees too and most of my clients think I’m crazy for it!
I love burpees too! My fiance and other people in my workout classes always think I’m crazy, but I get so excited when any workout incorporates them. So glad to know that I’m not the only one!
I’m not sure if my previous comment went through so I’m trying again.
Hey Jen – Quick random question for ya. Do you have a recommendation for the best cross training sneakers? I’m having the worst luck trying get a right fit for my feet. I do a lot of plyometrics, cardio and pivoting (I do a lot of dancing workouts) and I’ve just not been happy with any of the sneakers I’ve recently picked. My feet always hurt. So frustrating.
Oh and my fave vacay workout is walking! It’s so cool to be seeing the sights and workout out at the same time. Ha.
*working out* at the same time. Ha.
sorry, i couldn’t leave that mistake alone. lol.
I wear Inov-8s for most of my workouts that are not running. I like them because they don’t much of a drop, which is great for lifting and squatting. They’re very light weight and don’t have a ton of cushion, which I’m not sure would help your situation.
What a great week! I’ve never thought of golf 🙂
Are you able to just walk into any gym or did you have a membership already?
You can normally get a free first time walk in or even 7 day pass if it’s your first time at a gym!
I would love to wake up to that kind of view! I think the last time I played mini gold was 10 years ago with I was in university. I don’t even know if there’s any mini golf places in the city I live in now.
Running is my go-to vacation workout just because it’s so easy (equipment and planning-wise) and you can do it almost anywhere. But I love going to local fitness studios while I’m away and trying their classes. Especially because the first time is usually free 🙂
I agree! Running also allows you to make sure you don’t miss out on too much beach time!
I love running on vacation! It’s a great way to explore
It’s fun to have a change of pace from my usual routes too!
3 miles runs on vacation are the perfect length to give you that runner’s high but not too long that you dedicated a large chunk of your morning away from the beach!
I completely agree!
i am terrible at mini golf!
Ha! I am too, but I surprised myself on Saturday!
Saw your sandwich post. I love sourdough bread and have to make my own here. Would love to try your Dad’s method, could you or your Dad share it sometime? Your Dad hasn’t had a post since the yogurt. I make yogurt too, but usually soy yogurt or goats milk kefir.
I like your idea of vacations! 🙂
So with you on the dirty/unsanitary gym thing – I “ate” a Groupon deal for a Boot Camp because the reception area and gym area were filthy. Get a broom. sweep up the hair balls!
