Remember how I ended my last post saying that I was a rainy morning so I was going to visit CrossFit Fort Walton? Well, I drove over there for the 9:30 class and no one showed to teach it! There were like four of us waiting in the rain in the parking lot. Boo. There was no announcement on their website that classes were cancelled so I don’t know what was going on.
The only bright side to it all was that there was a Starbucks right down the road so I grabbed a soy latte and then came home to tackle my own workout. Here’s what happened.
5K run for time – finished in 25:13.
THEN
10 – 1 (start with 10 reps of each exercise and count down to 1)
Burpees
Air Squats
Push Ups
Sit Ups
I finished that in 7:37.
Workout success! I was absolutely dripping in sweat after the 5K run. Even with overcast skies the humidity was killer.
Post-workout lunch was a repeat of yesterday’s sandwich with the exception of toasting the bread and melting the cheese on this one. I am loving this combination. I am also loving cherries and watermelon. I ate tons of both over the course of the day.
It finally cleared up enough to make it out to the beach around 2 and by the time I came in at 5 it was absolutely beautiful. I spent my time on the beach napping and reading before having to head in to take care of some work things.
We stayed in for dinner last night and it was just what I needed! The only time I left the condo yesterday was for my failed CrossFit attempt and I’m happy with that! I am enjoying moving between bed, the beach and the condo. I started my meal with a salad to get some green stuff in.
But who cares about the salad when you have this as a main event! We did a low country boil and enjoyed it out on the patio as the sun was setting. Perfection! My dad went out to the seafood market and got some huge Gulf shrimp. We added spicy andouille sausage, corn and potatoes to the pot with Zataran’s shrimp and crab boil and had French bread on the side. This is one of my most favorite beach dinners!
After we cleaned up, my dad suggested a walk on the beach and it sounded like the perfect after-dinner activity. We ended up taking a pretty long walk as we chatted. It was so relaxing.
The walk also made room for a big bowl of ice cream. I picked up a half-gallon of Publix’s Cookies and Cream Ice Cream at the grocery the other day. It is one of my favorite ice creams ever (only the Publix brand – it is packed with cookies!). It was a favorite treat when I lived in Birmingham where we had Publix as our main store. I’ll consider myself lucky that I can’t get this ice cream in Charlotte!
It’s a beautiful day. Off to run and then beach it all day! I see lots of swimming in my future. We’re going to one of our favorite restaurants tonight that was a yearly tradition growing up for our “nice dinner out” so I can’t wait to share it with you tomorrow! I have some good and embarrassing stories about this place to tell you…and I’ll make sure my hair is extra curly and get a picture for ya. 😉
Have a great weekend!
You are so fast…I need some tips! Or I just need to run more. A long chat with Dad and Publix ice cream…jealous of that combo! Sounds like it’s been a great break!
you are my idol.
Sounds like you’re having a fun and relaxing time! I love how you still had the oomph to get in a workout despite the CrossFit fail. You are so strong – you look amazing, girl! Every day ending with ice cream and a walk on the beach is a good day indeed. 😉
You look incredible! What a nice weekend, I had a relaxing holiday as well…sometimes we all just need to do nothing for a few days 🙂
That really sucks about the class! Publix brand anything is always a winner for us!
Beautiful beach photo! I so need a beach vacation, but it looks like mine will be all mountains and plains this year. Oh well, maybe this winter!
Wow! Just did that workout while enjoying time in Northern Michigan, definitely one I’ll do again! Thanks for the idea Jen!
DANG!! You are a BEAST! I can’t believe you ran a 5K that fast and then did that second part in under 8…amazing. And that picture of you in the mirror post-workout needs to be in your header! You look so tan and so buff, it’s perfect!!
Publix is coming to Charlotte! Two stores near the SC/NC border.
Great time! That ice cream looks fantastic.
Would you post your grocery list at some point? I’d love to copy some of your meals… but I wouldn’t want to purchase something and then only use it once.
Thanks!
You are looking fab! Awesome workout even though you had to come home and create your own. Such a bummer no teacher showed up for the class though. Sounds like you are having a fun time and the beach looks beautiful!
you are so amazing Jen, with your cross fit workouts. I still can’t get over the one you did on July 4. I have to keep reminding myself that I have about 20 years on you.
Stupidest question ever – that looks like an open-faced sandwich (which u seem to eat lots of). how do you eat them without the ingredients going everywhere? are you terribly elegant and use a fork?
hi trish – thanks for the kind words. it’s taken a long time and a lot of work to get to where i can survive these workouts and they still do a number on me!
regarding the sandwiches, i do eat a lot of open-faced sandwiches (i actually did put a top on the one yesterday). i usually eat them with a fork and a knife. otherwise they’re too much of a mess!
You look strong! You go, girl!
Cookies and cream is my favorite flavor! And I want to go swimming so bad! I haven’t been in a year (much less, near a beach) and I miss it tons!
Also, dang do you look fit – the picture of a runner!
I love how simple and easy-to-remember that workout out – I bet its a killer too. I’d definitely use that when I’m away on vacation or unable to hit the gym – thanks for the inspiration 🙂
