Hi everyone. We’ve made it to Friday. This has been a really weird and crazy week for me. First, Finn’s been gone since last Saturday on vacation at the beach with his dad. I tried to FaceTime him one day but literally got 30 seconds of his attention before he ran away to play. While I did want to chat with him, I was really happy he was having such a great time. While I’m in a decent groove with co-parenting and having days and weekends when Finn isn’t at home, a whole week feels a little strange. I initially thought I would be so productive with work, house and personal stuff while he was gone but then I discovered that I needed a lot of rest and downtime too.
I did do a lot of teaching and taking yoga. I picked up a few extra classes to sub and took advantage of having a free schedule to TAKE classes too (remember, I don’t practice with my students when I teach). I honestly loved the extra teaching and taking although there was one day that I took five showers (they were quick two minute rinse offs, not full out showers) because I was in and out of the studio so much.
It was also a hard week in continuing to manage house repairs at my house and my rental. They are all happening at once, I swear. I got more unpleasant news today from my HVAC guy about the duct work at my rental that had me thinking my days as a landlady might be numbered (kidding and not kidding all at the same time).
I’m also navigating some difficult family things. More to come but not today. I hate to be indirect but it’s not just about me. When it’s the right time for everyone, I’ll share more.
These two have been a huge comfort this week. They’ve been so sweet and snuggly and we’ve taken lots of walks.
I think Benji really misses Finn because he keeps finding his Mickey and carrying it around the house. I’ve caught him with it like five times. He’s not chewing it, just carrying it. So sweet.
We visited Dilworth Animal Hospital today for their annual check ups. It was our first time going into the vet’s office since before the pandemic. Both dogs got a perfect report although Zoey is tipping the scales at almost 80 pounds (she’s normally closer to 75) so I’ve been instructed to cut back her food a bit…which she is not going to be a fan of. Skinny Benji weighed in at 54 pounds and the vet said he’s great where he is but I can slightly increase his food if he wants to eat more. Benji will be a big fan of that.
I ventured out one evening to pick up a few things at the grocery store and instead found myself at Home Depot where I bought a few new house plants, a tomato plant and some herbs.
I didn’t feel like being very social this week but I did get makeup and a dress on one night for a girl’s dinner with Bevin and Dorie. My hair was so dirty because I was coming straight from teaching hot yoga but thank goodness for dark hair and ponytails.
We went to The Crunkleton. It’s one of Dorie’s go-to spots but Bevin and I had never tried it. We shared the charcuterie, a gnocchi entree, brussel sprouts and truffle fries. The charcuterie board was pretty epic and we probably could have made dinner out of just this. Yes, that is peanut brittle in a pool of honey. I wish this was sitting in front of me right now.
I also did Thai takeout one night. This is red curry with tofu and veggies from Aroy Thai.
And sushi another night. This is from Koishi. I thought I’d do a lot of cooking this week but that didn’t come to fruition.
I did bake some beautiful bread though. I sent my dad this picture and called it the battle of the French cookware. I baked one loaf in my Le Crueset dutch oven and the other in the Staub that my dad gave me for Christmas.
I’m spending my Friday afternoon/evening in a four-hour hair appointment. I needed a change. Next time you hear from me, I’ll share the after picture and probably way too many pictures of Finn after we are reunited, haha.
Sending love and blessings to all of you. Enjoy the weekend.
QUESTIONS
How was your week? What’s on deck for your weekend?
Any recommendations for favorite houseplants that are dog and toddler friendly?
What’s your favorite thing to order takeout?
I’m so sorry about all the house issues. Owning property is wonderful but when things go south… I’m also so sorry that there are some things going on with your family, which must be so stressful for you. I’m glad you took it easy on yourself and rested, and that you were able to fill your cup with yoga practice and teaching. 🙂
Thai all the way. I cannot make it at home, and it’s light years better than Chinese in my opinion. Your choice for that meal looks wonderful!
Thank you so much for your kind words, Anne. <3
I agree with you on not being able to make Thai at home. I love getting take-out that is stuff that I don't cook at home!
