And it’s Monday again. It’s always a “back to reality” start to the week for me because I train clients at 5:30 a.m. and 6:30 a.m. every Monday. Definitely gets me up and going. I rearranged my schedule a few months ago to get some better work/life balance and to cut back on early mornings and late nights teaching/training and it’s worked out beautifully. I owe you a post on that.
This weekend was social and a lot of fun.
Friday kicked off with a lunch date at Which Wich. It’s been forever since I had this sandwich deliciousness and YUM!
It’s kind of become a tradition to go to Polka Dot anytime we go to Which Wich because they’re in the same shopping center. I mean, it just makes sense right? We went halfsies on a key lime pie and strawberry. The strawberry is the best in Charlotte. I love that they blend the strawberries into the batter versus it being “strawberry shortcake” style.
On Friday night we went for a run and then to dinner at a friend’s house. I didn’t take any photos while I was with my friends. There was too much good food, conversation and wine for that. And one seriously cute baby.
I was up and at ’em on Saturday morning to meet some friends for Madabolic at 7:30 a.m. I had second thoughts about my decision to register for that class when my alarm went off but meeting my friends kept me accountable. It was nice to get my workout knocked out early to have the rest of the day free. I taught my 11:15 a.m. at Y2 and it was one of those magical classes with amazing energy. I had a sushi lunch in the cafe after teaching and our sushi chef surprised me with a refreshing coconut sake cocktail.
I hung out with the girls on Saturday afternoon and took them for a walk. Why they think it’s fun to chew on each others faces is beyond me but it sure does make them happy.
I surprised my fiance on Saturday night with tickets to see Jim Gaffigan at the Uptown Ampitheater. It’s his favorite comedian. When I purchased the tickets on Wednesday and up until the day of the event there was a ZERO percent chance of rain. Driving into Uptown that forecast was pretty much laughable.
We arrived at the Music Factory to find it more crowded than we’d ever seen it before. The weather was looking super sketchy and the line was so long to get in so we decided to pop into VBGB.
We shared boneless wings, caprese skewers and a quinoa black bean salad with chips. Thank god we did because it started pouring and the show had a rain delay.
We finally made it in around 9 wearing black trash bags (that we paid $5 for and were advertised as “ponchos”…they were not ponchos) and watched Jim Gaffigan while standing in drizzling rain. He was on for about an hour and most of the material was new. It was a little weird to see a comedian in a venue that I’m used to seeing energetic musicians in but it was a fun experience. I was pretty shocked to wake up the next morning and find out that Jim had reposted my photo from the event!
We met some friends at Gallery Twenty-Two for a birthday party after the concert (wild and crazy Saturday!). The current exhibit is skateboard art and one of my friends bought this Buddha board.
I stayed in bed until 10 a.m. on Sunday after our late night on Saturday. Have I told you lately that I LOVE having Sunday mornings free? 🙂 Every Sunday I think I’m going to get up and do something or maybe actually go take a yoga class but then I just lounge around and it’s amazing. I made this brunch for us around 11. French toast with blueberries, eggs over tomatoes, sauteed spinach and avocado and fresh fruit.
I practiced yoga on Sunday afternoon and then returned to the studio later that evening for a staff potluck. We had so much good food! I made the kale salad you see back left and I’ll be sharing the recipe with you this week.
I picked up a black and white cake from Whole Foods for my friend and fellow teacher Virginia who is heading off to college this week. This cake was seriously incredible and it tasted as good as it looks!
Have you ever seen a comedian live? If so, who?
Did you have a social or quiet weekend?

I had a super social weekend with one of my best friends visiting us in San Francisco. I did have some nice down time in the afternoon when she was catching up with other buddies, and even got two naps in 🙂
How fun! Sounds like a pretty perfect weekend to me!
Sounds like the perfect weekend! Your Sunday brunch looks amazing 🙂
So glad to see you slowing down a little and enjoying being leisurely! You seem super-happy! 🙂
I LOVE Jim Gaffagin! He’s hilarious and I always love his pieces on “Hot Pockets”. Your Sundays sound amazing…I need to start doing that ASAP…Sleeping in hasn’t happened in a long time. Looks like a awesome weekend! 🙂
My boyfriend and I LOVE Jim Gaffigan! I have’t seen him live (yet) but plan to soon… SO COOL that he re-posted your great pic! What a great weekend, I split mine between friends Friday night/Saturday morning (including my friend’s ADORABLE daughter who was such a ham during Saturday brunch including turning around in her highchair to watch football at the young age of 11 months old! haha!).
The rest of the weekend was dedicated to multiple REI/EMS/Paragon Sports (all outdoors stores) to start getting all the gear I need for my Machu Picchu trip with my best friend in less than 2 weeks! Ahhh! 🙂
i love jim gaffigan ! i just realized the other day that he has a “clean” routine and i didnt even notice ! it sounds bad but often i find more “unclean” humor funnier. it says a lot that he’s so popular ! i have seen bill maher live and he was great. and various people i dont remember at smaller comedy clubs. i love to watch comedy specials on hbo or netflix. sometimes u just need to laugh ! if you havent already looked i like jim gaffigans pandora channel. sometimes if im having a bad work day if i can get out at lunch for a quick walk i listen to the comedy channel and it really helps lighten my attitude.
The hubby and I love Jim Gaffigan. He’s hilarious! Did you know he has his own TV show on TVland (new episodes on Wednesday evenings)? The show is somewhat based on his life.
If you guys like Gaffigan, check out John Pinette (now deceased, but he has some wonderful cd’s/shows available for listening). Pinette’s style is similar to Gaffigan’s.
Sorry. totally did not mean to post twice…… :-/
