I’ve hit the ground running after a weekend packed with fun activities and friends. I trained a client and taught yoga this morning and then had an appointment with the chiropractor and a session with my trainer. In hindsight I should have schedule those activities in reverse order but oh well. I didn’t think I was even going to be able to fit the session in but I’m so glad I did. I swung by Whole Foods after the session to pick up some groceries and I could barely lift my arms to get my produce (to say that my trainer likes pull ups is an understatement).
Speaking of my trainer, we met her and her husband for dinner on Friday night. My fiance was a personal trainer before getting into yoga and worked with them for years. We had a great dinner and ended up talking until after 11 p.m.
I have been craving carrot cake since Easter so I was overly excited to learn that it was our cake flavor of the weekend at Namastay Kitchen. I had our server box up a piece for me to take home and dug in as soon as we walked through the door.
Despite my late night, I was up and ready to go on Saturday morning for our World Record Boot Camp Attempt. I ran 5 miles that morning (it was in the upper 50s and so gorgeous) before heading over to STAX.
We started the workout right at noon and it was so freaking awesome to look out and see thousands of people moving and sweating together.
The field was broken up into 10 sections and there were 10 exercises total in the workout. The participants stayed at their stations but the trainers rotated through the 10 sections. I was the flutter kick girl so after demoing flutter kicks and the modification for it, I hopped off stage and walked through my section motivating and coaching people for the 3 minutes that they did each exercise. My exercise was generally well-received because people got to lay down for it. I’m glad I wasn’t the burpee girl. 😉
Post-boot camp photo of our girl trainers.
The girls and the guys.
And the WHOLE CROWD! While we fell shy of setting the record for largest circuit training/boot camp ever, we did break two world records with the most people doing push ups and sit ups together at one time. So Charlotte is in the record books and we’ll be back to crush that boot camp record in the future!
It was a really, really amazing morning of community.
I was wiped out when I finally got home around 2:30. I made a late lunch and hung out for a few hours before heading to my friend’s annual food truck party.
I think it’s such an awesome idea! They hire a food truck to come and serve food for the party. This year’s food truck was Bleu Barn Bistro and the food was delicious!
I had such a hard time deciding and ended up going with the pork belly tacos and the beet salad. Both were so good!
One of my favorite things about this annual party is that the hostess always gets a selection of cupcakes from Cupcake Delirium.
My other favorite is getting so see so many people that I love in one place. The party was full of familiar faces and yoga friends!
I took two strawberry cupcakes home with me (at the host’s encouraging…you don’t have to ask me twice!). My two favorite cake flavors of strawberry and carrot cake in one weekend? Heaven!
Sunday was super low-key. I stayed in my PJs until 3:45 p.m. I spent most of the day cleaning out all of my drawers and my closet. I taught yoga at 4 and then came home to squeeze in a quick workout (I did my at-home bodyweight tabata workout) and then took the girls for a long walk while I caught up with my mom on the phone. It was 70 degrees, sunny and no humidity and the best walking weather.
And the night ended like this. My fiance’s mom came over to visit and Zoey needed a little attention.
Such a happy weekend and a happy heart! <3
Have you ever participated in a big, free fitness event?
Are food trucks popular in your city?
What was a “happy” from your weekend?
sounds like an awesome weekend! love the idea of the food truck party. i’m obsessed with the grilled cheese food truck, Papi Queso & track them down for lunch at least once a week. My favorite is the mushroom & grilled cheese.
Oh, I haven’t experienced that truck yet. I need to get on it! 🙂
I keep on reading that you are working with a personal trainer. Please tell us about that experience! Have you seen any strength gains/body composition changes? Does she have you following a meal plan?
Hey Marisa,
Thanks for the comment. It’s been an amazing experience and I LOVE working out with her. I’ve sprinkled in some commentary on it here and there but YES, I have definitely experienced strength gains and composition changes. No meal plan because neither of us are into telling our clients what to eat…which I appreciate so much and works well for me. 🙂 I’ll consider writing a more in depth post now that I’ve been working out with her for several months.
I am a local reader and love your blog!
Have you ever tried a slice of the Strawberry cake from Mert’s on College street uptown? SO DELICIOUS!!
Hi Christina – thanks so much for reading and for taking the time to comment…and for the cake recommendation. I haven’t but now it’s on my list! 🙂
Unfortunately, no, I haven’t ever participated in a big free fitness event–but it looks like so much fun! We have a number of great foodtrucks here in Lynchburg! Cheesy Rider is a good one (it’s based around grilled cheeses!). It was my birthday over the weekend, so my “happy” moment would have to be all the love from friends and family!
