Happy Father’s Day! I’m doing this weekend a little backwards by spending it with my mom but we did call my dad today to say hi and wish him a happy day! Fun fact, I was born on Father’s Day so I always joke with my dad that I was the ultimate gift. I can never top that. 😉
It’s been a totally relaxing weekend which has been really nice and just what I needed.
Last night I treated my mom and myself to a 60-minute massage at Urbana. It had been many years since her last massage and she loved and was able to totally relax which made me happy! My therapist was great and did some much needed deep work on me. So much so that I had a sore throat after the massage. I guess I had a lot of toxins to release!
After the massage we went to Illios Noche for dinner. We were able to be seated on the patio and it was the most perfect night for dining out. They also had live music which made for lovely ambiance. I have been wanting to try this recipe for months and it totally met my expectations. It’s owned by the same restaurant group as Nolen Kitchen, which I frequent often (that’s where I get the breakfast pita for brunch all the time). I started out with the roasted red pepper and feta spread with pita.
The dinner menu was incredible with so many delicious options but last night I wanted something light so I ordered the grape and fennel salad with grilled salmon. The salad featured spinach, shaved fennel, goat cheese, grapes, figs and a champagne vinaigrette.
I taught yoga this morning and then came home to make brunch. I went with an open faced egg sandwich on honey whole wheat with avocado, turkey bacon, basil mayo and colby jack. I had sliced tomatoes and fresh fruit on the side.
Then it was off to Nordstrom Rack. (My favorite store ever!) My mom treated me to these fun wedges for my birthday. They’re super light weight and comfortable.
And this Max Studio dress. It was marked down to $40 from over $100! You can’t really tell on the hanger but it’s fitted and the skirt is fun and a little twirly at the end. I’ll share a pic when I wear it. Gotta love a good white summer dress.
And I couldn’t resist switching out my phone cover for this cheerful design.
After shopping we needed to refuel so I took my mom for her first Amelie’s experience. It’s a 24-hour French bakery in a hip area of town that makes the most amazing treats.
We split the lemon raspberry tart and the mini strawberry cake and washed it all down with iced coffee. Everything was amazing. I’m kind of grateful that I live clear across town from this place or I would visit way too much!
What is your favorite bakery treat? I have to say that I’m partial to fancy tarts or a big buttery croissant!
I love the little mocha cakes they make near my hometown outside of Boston. I haven’t really seen them anywhere else but they are SO GOOD. Also love the almond croissant at a good French bakery. Happy early birthday! Have a great day!
mother daughter weekends are the best!
A couple years ago at a fancy Easter dinner I had the most amazing strawberry tart.
Pistachio macarons from Amelie’s are my favorite. Or really any of their macarons.
Amelie’s Salted Caramel Brownies!!
I was born on Father’s Day, too! Happy Birthday!! ox <3
LOVE that iPhone case! I need a new one as well…it is on its last leg, but will keep it until it totally fails. HA! I haven’t treated myself to be bakery treat in so long…I may have to change that soon. Those treats look delicious and glad you had a wonderful weekend with your Mom! 🙂
My favorite baked treat is a regular old glazed donut… Or a strawberry fritter. YUM! It looks like you had an awesome weekend.
What a fun visit with your mom! My favorite bakery treat is this oatmeal cookie bar from a bakery in DC called Sticky Fingers. They sell them at the local health store near my parents’ house in Maryland and whenever I’m home visiting, I always buy them. They’re so good!
So fun!! And where is that case from? It’s so adorable and perfect for summer! (If only my pale skin looked good in white…great summer staple for you!)
