I’m getting a late start to my Monday working after a pregnancy scare this morning that sent me to labor and delivery for a few hours of monitoring.
I’ll fill you in on everything in tomorrow’s 27 week pregnancy recap but me and baby boy are 100% okay and home resting and taking it easy. Please pray for us that it stays that way!
After returning home from NYC and getting sick on the way home, I was in the mood for a very low-key weekend. I subbed out my Friday morning class so that I could sleep in a bit and then had two other classes to teach that day – one cardio strength at the Y and a yoga class at the studio.
I stopped by the grocery on the way home from my evening class to pick up a few things to make a “real” meal. I don’t think I’ve cooked one of these in weeks! I made braised red cabbage and apples, roasted butternut squash and spiced chicken thighs.
Friday night’s entertainment was the movie Megan Leavey and it was just the type of movie I needed to see. I loved the story.
I always love it when movies are based on real life events/stories and Megan Leavey’s story is so uplifting, inspiring and heartwarming. If you haven’t seen the movie, I highly recommend it. This photo is of the real life Megan Leavey and her dog Rex. I thought that Kate Mara did a great job playing the part. I’ve always been a fan of hers.
My Saturday morning was spent teaching – I taught strength at the studio at 8:15a and then my normal hot yoga class at 11:15a. Lunch after teaching and a quick showing appointment for my rental home was a turkey sandwich with avocado, tomato, muenster, arugula, mayo and spicy mustard.
I’ve received a lot of questions about eating lunch meat and pregnancy. I buy the Applegate Organic packaged lunch meat where I would usually get the fresh stuff from the deli and then I heat it under the broiler for a few minutes. I definitely try to be careful about sources of lunchmeat that I eat but I honestly feel like listeria is more prevalent these days in things like salad mix, fruit and hummus than it is in deli meat!
On Saturday afternoon I got a 90 minute prenantal massage and it was so needed. I have only had one other massage since I’ve been pregnant and pre-pregnancy I got 1-2 a month. My therapist (who I love and have been seeing for a couple years now) said that it will be most important for me to get them regularly in my third trimester. So I’ll be sure to make that a priority. 😉 (Twist my arm.)
Also, prenatal massages are the best because you get to do them side-lying. I get so stuffy and puffy when I am on my belly with my face through the headrest so I love that I can breathe on my side and cuddle with a body pillow.
Dorie’s oldest daughter was home for the weekend from her freshman year in college so I had to go see her face on Saturday night. We all made burgers and salad for dinner and then sat around talking, playing games and watching season one of Sex and the City. Talk about a throwback!
The burgers were so good and the avocado sauce on top was really delicious.
Sunday was full of yoga. I taught prenatal at 11:15 and then had the teacher trainees for a couple of hours that afternoon and lectured them on warm-up sequencing. I ended the day of teaching with a hot class from 4-5.
Dorie had a small party for the super bowl but let’s be honest…I didn’t even know who was playing and really just want for Dorie’s famous artichoke dip and to see J.T. at half time. What did y’all think of the show? I’ve heard mixed reviews. I will always love him although I was more wowed by Lady Gaga last year.

I do like watching football and it was an entertaining game. Nice to see the Eagles beat the Patriots! And BTW, what on earth was Bill Belichick wearing!?
I hope y’all had a great weekend. I’ll be back tomorrow with my 27 week update.
Super Bowl…
Did you watch it?
Any good Super Bowl food?
Did you like J.T.’s performance?
So happy to hear that you and baby are home and okay. Praying that that continues!!
Thank you Katherine!
Glad you are home and taking it easy. For all of my pregnancies, I also had to do a stint in L&D. It’s scary!!!! Whether it’s falls, “weird” contractions, spotting- you name it!!
You’re going to be just fine! Promise. You’re not alone ❤️
Thank you so much for the encouraging words. I know I’m not alone and I’m praying that he just stick in there and keep growing big.
oh jen, how scary. i am so, so glad you and your baby boy are okay. anything that requires monitoring (and a visit to the hospital) is so scary and stressful. continued prayers for your health and a healthy pregnancy, baby and delivery. <3 <3 <3
Thank you Julie. It was definitely a shock and something I hope not to experience again in pregnancy. I want baby boy to stay put in there and keep growing big.
Glad to hear that all is well! Fingers crossed that there will be no more scary moments like that!
That photo of Bill B. made me chuckle. My husband and I decided that that must be his lucky shirt (maybe not so lucky after all) – we couldn’t come up with any other reason he’d wear that!
Thank you. I also hope the rest of my pregnancy is non-eventful. And yes, Bill B is hysterical in his sideline clothing choices! It’s like, “really!?” This is the super bowl!
Hey Jen, will your Dorie let you share her famous artichoke dip recipe???
Sending positive thoughts your way for you and the baby boy
Thank you Annie. <3
I’m so thankful to hear you and baby boy are ok. Please rest and practice much self care.
Thank you Pam. Yes, that is my top priority right now. <3
Jen – I hope everything is okay! My SIL had many complications during her pregnancy and it was incredibly stressful. She was hospitalized at 28 weeks and the doctors said she would deliver then. She ended up delivering at 34 weeks this past August, and my niece is 100% healthy. I’m not sure if that is what you are dealing with, but I wanted to offer some hope! Praying for you. XOXO
Thank you Kelly. What a blessing that your SIL was able to keep her baby girl growing until 34 weeks instead of 28. That is wonderful. I’m so glad that she is happy and healthy today. <3
So glad you and the baby are OK!
Hi Jen,
So sorry about your scare–I’ve been there and it’s the worst feeling. Really happy to hear you and your baby are doing well!
On an unrelated note, I want to thank you for your sourdough tutorial! I’ve spent a long time wanting to make my own sourdough but being really intimidated (I am no baker). Your instructions were so easy to follow. I’ve made it three times now and all of my loaves have turned out great! So thank you; I was never able to find anything as thorough and helpful as your tutorial, and now my family enjoys homemade bread all the time!
Hi Laurel – thank you. I’m so glad everything is okay for now.
RE: the sourdough. This makes me SO happy! YAY!
I hope everything is ok! Ive been following along and was worried after your post yesterday. I’m a few months behind you in my pregnancy, and had a subchronioc hemerage bleed very early on. Unlike you i was on bed rest for a week then pwlvic rest for several more (prob bc i actually bled and continued to spot). It was terrifying, I hope its not what you are dealing with. Sending love to you and your little man.
Hey Deezee, I’m sorry to hear about your SCH. I also had one in my first tri but luckily never bled from it so didn’t have to be placed on any restrictions and it resolved itself by my 12 week ultrasound.
Has yours resolved yet?
I have an ultrasound next week! Dr hasn’t been concerned at all, ultrasound is just their standard timing, I’ll be about 13 weeks. I, on the other hand, was a panicked crazy woman for a few weeks, but feel much better about it now. SCH’s are such a weird thing, some ppl have multiple bleeds, some have none! And there’s nothing you can do. I’m glad everything is ok after your hospital visit! Pregnancy sure is humbling, reminding me that I’m not always in control.
