Good morning! I hope you are all having a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.
A little housekeeping to start out today’s post. If you have submitted a contact form via the contact page and haven’t heard a response…it’s because I wasn’t getting notifications! I set up the form about six weeks ago and the notifications have not been coming to my inbox. I have discovered all of the messages via the backend of the blog and THANK YOU for your kind words, reaching out and questions. I will respond to all of you!
Now, let’s talk weekend thus far (hard to believe there are still two days of it!) and workouts.
The highlight of my weekend (and probably the whole month of May!) was finally getting to meet Bess from Bess Be Fit in real life. Bess and I have been reading each other’s blogs for years and years and have been friends online via email, Facbook, Twitter, Instagram…all that good stuff. I was thrilled to learn that she was moving to Charlotte and she just arrived here a few weeks ago. We met up for wine on Friday night and spent an hour and a half chatting without stopping once. I know this will be the first of many get togethers and a “real life” friendship. We even discovered we live less than a mile apart so we can be running buddies and have dog play dates too! So happy to have her here. Bess is amazing!
I taught yoga doubles Saturday morning and then hit up the farmers market. I haven’t been able to go for the last three weeks because of weekend conflicts. It was so great to be back and to get my weekend bouquet of flowers. These are just $10 and full of beautiful stems you would never find in grocery store arrangements. The bouquet is big enough for me to break into two smaller arrangements and they last all week.
I spent Saturday afternoon by the pool with friends and then got showered up for sushi.
Yes, yes, yes! Most perfect dinner. Although the only downside of sushi eating is that it always leaves me with puffy eyes the next morning due to the sodium. But I just can’t go without the soy sauce! I’m currently drinking warm lemon water to try to combat the puffiness! It was worth it! 🙂
After dinner I went to a bonfire a a friend’s house where I was served the most perfect s’more. He made them with fancy organic chocolate and vegan marshmallows. And I learned the best s’more making tip ever while I was there…place your graham cracker and chocolate on a stone or brick close to the fire while you toast your marshmallow. This gets the chocolate a little melted and takes the s’more to a whole new level. Can’t believe I never learned this in all my years as a camp counselor!
Now, a quick review of this week’s workouts.
This picture sums it up. CrossFit, CrossFit and more CrossFit. This is such a change for me because while I’ve enjoyed CrossFit for 2.5 years, I never really “got into it” until recently. Now I can’t get enough.
Monday
1 mile run + CrossFit
I warmed up with a one mile run and then did the following WOD which left my booty sore immediately after the WOD and for the next three days. Pistols get me every time.
3 Rounds For Time:
50 one-legged squats – alternating (I did these without assistance)
7 muscle-ups (I subbed 3 ring rows and 3 ring dips for each muscle up)
10 hang power cleans (I did these at 85#)
After the WOD I did the strength work for the day which was some light back squats and 50 GHD sit ups.
Tuesday
CrossFit + 2 mile run
The WOD was super short and took me only 6:46 to finish RX so I coerced a friend to run a couple of miles with me after.
10 Minute Time Cap:
100 DB push presses with 3 toes to bar every minute on the minute (I used 25# dumbbells)
Wednesday
Hot yoga
Only practice I could fit in all week but really needed.
Thursday
1 mile run + CrossFit
3 rounds:
3 deadlift (125#)
5 box jumps
5 rounds:
3 deadlift (105#)
5 box jumps
7 burpees
7 rounds:
3 deadlift (85#)
5 box jumps
7 burpees
9 Russian KB swings
This was a challenging WOD in that you start out heavy with the deadlifts and get lighter as you add more rounds and movements. The seven rounds at the end took forever. I finished this WOD right under 20 minutes.
Friday
CrossFit
3 rounds for time:
400 meter run
21 Power Snatches (I subbed cleans because I didn’t want to go overhead)
9 Toes to Bar
Saturday
3 mile run
Sunday
TBD…either another short run or yoga…need the yoga but have to fit it in.
Speaking of yoga…I’m off to teach it! Have an amazing day!
Fun weekend! Those flowers are gorgeous 🙂
One question about Crossfit – how can it be done on consecutive days when normally you’d take a day off in between strength training to let your muscles recover? Is it because you’re working different muscles, or the weight is lower than a traditional strength training workout? Just curious, since I’ve seen other athletes talk about Crossfitting on back-to-back days and was wondering how that worked.
Looks like you had a wonderful weekend 🙂 The weather here is amazing so I plan to get outside again today! Happy memorial day weekend!
Great smore tip! I always wish the chocolate would melt more because solid chocolate is just so hard to eat. I’ve even tried sticking the chocolate in the fire (balanced on a stick, does not work btw) and stuffing it inside the marshmallow.
I think this upcoming week is going to be all about yoga and running…I cannot get enough of running lately. It just helps me clear my mind and the sweating in this humidity is awesome. I met Bess a few years ago when we lived in NJ together. Enjoy the long weekend! XOXO
I can’t believe I have not used that Smores tip either. So happy you shared it!!!
