Very low key but lovely weekend here in Charlotte. Here is a quick recap…heavy on cake and golden retriever pictures, per usual.
I kicked off the weekend with a Friday afternoon cupcake date. We stopped by Suarez Bakery and picked out a cookie dough and pina colada cupcake to share.
The highlight of my Friday was receiving a message from a student that his daughter had spotted a copy of my book on the shelf at Barnes and Noble…in Anchorage, Alaska! This is exciting because a) I didn’t even know my book was being sold in stores and b) Alaksa!!!! I posted this on Instagram and someone else told me that they checked the book out of their library in NEW ZEALAND! I’ve gone global! ๐ (Fun fact…my book was also printed in Dutch and my publisher sent me a copy. It’s hysterical.)
YOU CAN ORDER YOUR OWN COPY HERE. PLEASE!
Shameless begging over! Moving on…
I am loving my leisurely weekend mornings. On Saturday I played around with acai for the first time and developed a new granola recipe. More on both in future posts this week!
I arrived at the studio on Saturday to teach my 11:15 a.m. class and one of my favorite and dearest students was there to surprise me with a birthday cake. I met Claudia when I started teaching at Om Yoga two years ago and she is one of the most beautiful, genuine and thoughtful people that I know. Anytime I have her in my classes she lights up the room. This summer her daughter is practicing with me at Y2 while she’s home from college. Some of you might remember that Claudia baked me a Reese’s cake last fall. She spoils me!
She baked me a strawberry cake that tasted like shortcake!
Look how beautiful! What a generous treat!
On Saturday evening we grabbed a casual dinner at Foxcroft Wine Co. As I mentioned in my post reviewing Corkbuzz, Foxcroft Wine Co. is my favorite wine bar in Charlotte. It’s so relaxed and I love that you can browse their retail section to choose a bottle for dinner. Their food is amazing and reasonably priced. The service is warm and friendly. It’s one of those places where the staff learns your name. We look forward to their seasonal grilled okra every year! You can find a copycat-ish recipe on my blog here.
I immediately changed into comfy clothes and harassed Zoey after dinner. She actually doesn’t mind being held…it just looks ridiculous!
Sunday morning cuddles. (She does NOT sleep in the bed…just visits on special occasions!)
Brunch…perfecting my omelets! ๐
The most glorious four mile run. The weather in Charlotte was incredible on Sunday. Mid 80s and low humidity with not a cloud in the sky.
After my run I taught Total Strength at the Y and then hit up Target and Trader Joe’s. I’ll have a Trader Joe’s shopping haul post for you later this week.
I wrapped up the weekend in a flurry of cleaning, laundry, organization and overall prep for the week ahead. I love to start the week with a clean slate.
Monday has already been off to a busy start…I trained clients at 5:30 and 6:30 and taught yoga at 8:15. I’m off to the vet now with Sullie. She has a hot spot on her face so I’m going to get that taken care of.
Have a great week!
Was your weekend active or low-key? What was the highlight of your weekend? Any sweet treats?
Cutest dogs ever! I want to try the granola recipe!
Thanks! I’ll share soon!
What a wonderful weekend you had! Fitness and food and dogs? Yes, me too! I went to a fair with friends yesterday and had the most amazing deep-fried Oreo. And I never eat fried food, which made it even more incredible. Yummy! ๐ How nice of your students to bring you treats.
Yum!!
I spy in your shopping cart TJ’s Farro…I am going to make it tonight and see how it turns out. Um that cake looks AMAZING!!!! Very mellow weekend here in Houston and it was just what I needed. ๐
It’s not Alaska but I saw your book at B&N in NYC last week! Will send you a pic next time ๐ I had a somewhat active weekend, but mostly because it involved traveling to see family, which was a highlight!
That’s so exciting! Glad you got to go see your family!
I’m in Denmark for vacation now and I just saw your book and I was surprised to see it printed in Danish as well! ๐ It seems to be really doing well!
We were camping in Highlands, NC and it was tons of fun! Also, side note – I now buy the frozen figs at TJs at your recommendation and LOVE them! Perfect for smoothies!
