Hey, hey. Hope your week is off to a great start. We’re in the midst of a thunderstorm right now and Finn is having a nice, long nap so I’m taking advantage and trying to get my weekend recap post written!
Rather than go day-by-day, I’ll just share photo highlights…which aren’t really “highlights” but they’re our life. <3
Lots of time at home with the babe + the pups.
What meals look like these days.
A trip to the Charlotte Regional Farmers Market. Dorie tagged along.
Finn slept through it. I ate my way through it after I grabbed this glorious morning.
I watched a LOT of episodes of this show over the weekend. I’m obsessed. It’s so funny and the acting is great.
Friday…Saturday…Sunday night on the couch with Finn! I was chatting with a friend over the weekend and realized I haven’t gone out to dinner since the night I went into labor!
Totally don’t mind nights at home when this is my company.
I walked the girls Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening. On Friday and Sunday I went for short runs before walking them.
Brunch with a mom friend who invited me over to her place on Sunday morning to hang out a eat. Finn and I had such a nice time and her baby girl is the cutest! Her husband cooked us breakfast while we chatted. Blueberry pancakes, bacon and scrambled eggs.
Granola baking. I’m going to share the recipe later this week. It’s tahini fig walnut!
Sunday night sheet pan dinner.
The end.
What did you do over the weekend?
Did you go out at night when you had a new baby? (I’m terrified…evenings are so hit or miss!)
Anyone else loving Mrs. Maisel!?
my weekend with my 3-month-old was similar! (same play mat, giraffe wubbanub.) we have taken him out to dinner with us with pretty good results. best to go in with no expectations! if he melts down, you get take out. or you take turns walking him around (this is where a group dinner wins). places with patio seating are best! also brew pubs are great, since they are a bit noisier anyway 🙂 and I have gotten used to eating a 5pm dinner hahah! also my book says that at about 4 months babies start having a more predictable sleeping pattern (close to 7pm- 7am) so I am thinking going out to eat will get easier around then, but these babies are always surprising us!
Mrs. Maisel is some of the greatest television out right now. I absolutely LOVE it!
So cute–all the Finn pics…
And loved Mrs. Maisel. There will be a second season—-thank goodness!!!
Aw, your weekend looks perfect! I know it’s a big change from what life used to be like – but you have some very cute and loving company in your care! Question for you: I was wondering – the boppy newborn lounger vs the dockatot… is the dockatot really worth the extra $$? Would the newborn lounger be a good substitute? Just curious.
Love following you and watching Finn grow! He is so adorable!!
I have newborn twins and we’re all obsessed with the DockATot! They nap in them all day (on the couch next to us since they’re technically not safe sleeping approved… although I have friends whose babies slept overnight in them for months.) My husband was not onboard when we bought them, especially the cost of two, but he loves them just as much as I do now!
Laura, Thanks so much for commenting! That is very helpful. They are expensive – so just want to make sure it’s worth it! Sounds like it is. 🙂
Hey Laura and Kristy –
I love our DockATot too. I also have the Boppy Lounger and use both, but differently. Finn really seems to love the DockATot…I think because it kind of hugs him in since it has sides. I move the DockATot all over the house and use it everywhere! I would recommend it. And you can usually find a discount code to get 20% off.
Good to know! I am going to make the splurge. Thanks so much!
Mrs. Maisel is THE BEST. I am so looking forward to season 2. The lead actress won a golden globe for the role last year. I also realized she was Kate Spade’s niece after she passed away.
Finn reminds me of your dad – from the photos you’ve shared of him!
When my babies were newborns, I loved going out for lunch instead of dinner with them!! I could usually get ready during a morning nap or play time in the bouncy seat. We were both usually still in a good mood and no one was over tired at noon plus it breaks up the day nicely 🙂 Then you go home for a nap and also still get to have cozy cuddle time on the couch in the evening with the little babe (the BEST part of those early days!!).
Yes, lunch was way easier than dinner!
Yes, lunches have been great for us and have totally worked. And it is such a nice way to break up the day. I also love our evening cuddles and I’m in no rush to get out of the house!
There are no longer leisurely dinners out for me with baby. I also prefer lunches now. Or having people over who will hold the baby (and a glass of wine) while I cook.
Yes Kathleen! I couldn’t agree more!!!!
We’ve only gone out to dinner with our son once. He was around 3 months and my brother was in town so we took him to our favorite (loud) restaurant. Paul pretty much screamed through the whole dinner. 🙁 It was pretty awful. Luckily since it was loud in there he didn’t disturb anyone else. We don’t eat out with hif we do, we will only go out for lunch. Especially now that he goes to bed around 7 (he started going to bed earlier around 3-4 months, I think? It’s all a blur!). I’ve gone out for book club sans baby several times which feels great. It’s nice to catch up with friends occasionally sans baby.
Hey Lisa – yes, I’m thinking I’m going to need to start shifting his bedtime up a bit here soon and that seems to limit what you can do in the evenings…although I haven’t really been going out anyway so that’s a moot point! Your screaming dinner is my nightmare! I’m so glad that it was loud and you were able to make it through. I do think going out at night sans baby at this stage seems like the way to go…haha! 🙂
Looks like a nice weekend! Finn and your pups are adorable. Looking forward to that granola recipe! It looks delicious.
Can’t wait for that tahini, fig, walnut granola recipe! 🙂
Hi Jen,
I just wanted yo reach out to you and thank you for your blog and online presence. I am 38 weeks pregnant and have been following you throughout my pregnancy. I was in school and on my own quite a bit for most of it while my husband was working abroad and I cant tell you how helpful it is to have someone like you to cast some light on the craziness that is pregnancy and new motherhood!

Hi Lucy –
CONGRATS on your pregnancy and thanks for your kind words! I am sending you so much love as you get ready to embark on this crazy ride of motherhood! Wishing you a healthy delivery here very soon!
I agree that lunches or brunch is a lot easier with a baby. For dinners we would have people over or go to their houses. Or to a restaurant that was super baby friendly and with friends that would help hold or sooth the baby as needed. It seemed like once I did it a few times, it got a lot easier. Good luck!
Yes, lunch and brunch has been best for us, for sure! Your dinners at people’s houses or over at yours sounds perfect. I just feel like evenings are so unpredictable at this point and the thought of being out of the house stresses me out a bit! 🙂
I love your blog! I have a 3 week old now so I like reading your baby updates. She has really unpredictable naps but is pretty good at night. I’m so impressed at how put together you are to eat healthy home cooked meals with a baby at home. I started making a frozen pizza at 12 and am just now starting to eat it at 1:45!
Ahhh congrats on your new baby! We are at 11 weeks and naps are still so unpredictable. But that’s great that you are having some good nights! Haha…I feel you on the food. It’s hit or miss for me!
I looooved The Marvelous Mrs Maisel – one of my very favorite things I’ve watched in a long time. So funny! And visually stunning – love the costuming.
Yes! I agree!
Jen!! Finn is such a cutie!!! Congrats again! Not sure if you’ve done this yet or not, but I was hoping you’d write a recap of your favorite baby books and podcasts. I’m 10 weeks pregnant with my first and looking for some good ones! Someone recommended “Babywise” to me. Have you read it? I know you’ve mentioned a few podcasts that you enjoy, but was hoping for a comprehensive recap…IF you have the time. I know you’re busy and no hard feelings if this post doesn’t get written. Snuggles with Finn are MUCH more important! You’re doing FANTASTIC, momma!! He’s such a lucky boy to have you as his momma. XO
Hi – biggest congrats on your pregnancy! I hope you are feeling well!
I have Babywise but I’ve found it’s a bit to rigid for my taste. Everyone is different in their approach and I think it’s important to keep an open mind.
If I don’t get the post written…here are a few faves…
The Birth Hour Podcast
The Birthful Podcast
Bringing Up Bebe
Moms on Call
Happiest Baby on the Block
I’ll also post a big list of mom/parenting podcasts that have been recommended to me soon!
Awesome! Thanks so much, Jen! I appreciate you taking the time to respond. Will definitely check these out. And thank you for the congrats regarding my pregnancy! Can’t complain too much as far as symptoms go, just utterly exhausted. Totally, 100%, worth it though. Keeping you and Finn and the pups in my thoughts. XO
Oh, this looks like highlights for sure! I’d switch any time ☺️?
Aw thank you! 🙂 It’s a pretty special time of life.
I think that’s the best kind of weekend, staying home with your adorable Finn and your pups!
Yum to a new granola recipe!
Hope your week has been great and restful so far Jen!
It was a very nice weekend! 🙂 Recipe soon and the week has been okay, thank you!
