This post title is in reference to Saturday Night Live’s “Weekend Update” segment…but back when Tina Fey and Amy Poehler co-anchored. They were the first-ever all-female anchor team and I thought the two of them played off of each other beautifully and hysterically. Gosh, I used to really enjoy SNL and my all-time favorite segments were The Californians and Weekend Update. Please tell me that someone else out there loved The Californians too. It would make me cry laughing.
OKAY, this post started out on quite the tangent but I do have a strong theme here. Lots to update you guys on when it comes to the yoga front so let’s go!
BACK TO CENTRAL PENNSYLVANIA JANUARY 3-5
I am kicking my 2020 work travel off with a bang and returning to central Pennsylvania to lead a weekend of classes and workshops at Studio B Power Yoga. I have been partnering with this studio for over three years now and I love visiting so much! You can find details on my workshops page. I would love to see local readers in class or at the workshops. The studio is drivable from Northern VA, DC, Baltimore and Philly! 🙂
You can read about my past weekends in Pennsylvania here.
2020 CHARLOTTE, NC 200-HOUR YOGA TEACHER TRAINING
I will be leading a 200-hour yoga teacher training in Charlotte in 2020 in partnership with VIBE5 Yoga and Fitness. We begin in March and early bird rates are currently available. I will be writing a more in-depth post about this soon but wanted to get it on your radar ASAP since March will be here before we know it. You can find information on dates and pricing here.
If you have questions or want to read more about the yoga teacher training journey, check out this post.
ALL THE YOGA IN JANUARY
In January I will also be traveling to Asheville Yoga Center for the second module of my 300-hour yoga teacher training as well as traveling to Kingsport, TN to lead our final weekend of 200-hour yoga teacher training at VIDA Hot Yoga. 2020 is off to a strong start and I cannot wait for a year of learning and growth on the career front.

CLIMBING OUT OF THE HOLE, ONE YEAR LATER
One year ago I wrote a post about climbing out of a hole and taking vulnerable steps towards re-entering the yoga space and returning to regular teaching. After Finn was born, I considered giving up yoga as a profession altogether. VIDA Hot Yoga threw me a lifeline that they didn’t even know that I desperately needed and gave me a safe, welcoming, loving and fun place to remember what I loved so much about this practice, teaching it to others and teaching others to teach it. That experience gave me the courage I needed to step back into the teaching space in Charlotte after an eight-month hiatus.
I have learned a tremendous amount in this last year of teaching with the bandaid of familiarity and safety ripped off. I am the most proud of the humility that I have embodied and the independence that I have found in my teaching. I have shifted to teaching from a place of inner-wisdom rather than set expectations.
I am currently in a space of questioning everything. I’m on fire to grow and learn as much as I can so that I can be the most effective teacher possible. I am also hungry to continue deepening my personal relationship with the practice far beyond the physical.
Losing the comfort that I had for many years at a studio where I was known and invested was a hard blessing to receive but everything does happen for a reason and I can see that this was supposed to happen in order for me to evolve.
I won’t say that this past year has been easy but it’s challenged me in meaningful ways. I have never felt more like me as a teacher, and I am super proud of that. I am committed to continuing to do the work to become the best version of me as a teacher, person, mom, friend, daughter and hopefully one day partner that I can be.
Cheers to 2020.

Its great to hear that you are inspired and motivated! I’m a pilates instructor, but with 3 kids I find it hard to find motivation to learn and grow as a teacher. But, I would love to feel inspired and have the energy to learn so hopefully one of these days……
On another note, I loved your last yoga video (the one on the clorox post) but I found the audio kind of hard to hear. I’d love to see more yoga videos from you!!!!
I’m so amazed and inspired by your bravery. After my divorce I fell into a hole as well because a writing job I loved ended … so I lost a great work community doing something I loved (the company was purchased and there was a big reorganization …)
I started drinking too much and exercising too much and it was pretty self destructive. I got out of that rut luckily, but I know how scary it is to lose a relationship and work and sanctuary all at once. Even with a tiny baby you stayed on your path and I am just in awe of that. Thank you for being such an inspiration. Xoxo
I love your perspective of “a hard blessing to receive…”
Life’s rewards are the easy ones. I feel it’s the challenges that make us stretch our boundaries with the uncomfortable and the unknown. They are equally as valuable as the rewards life nurtures us with.
Here’s to 2020. All the best 🙂
