I hope the first day of September was great for everyone! September seems to signal the end of summer and bring the start of football, fall foods (hold on to your seats…pumpkin madness forthcoming!) and the promise of cooler days to come. It feels like a breath of fresh air. Personally, I am excited for all of the things that this month has to hold.
I kicked off September the best way I could think of…with an early morning ashtanga practice. I’ve said this countless times but starting the day on my mat brings so much happiness and gratitude.
I was most disorganized this morning and it was all I could do to just get some work clothes thrown together before heading to the studio. I didn’t pack breakfast so I stopped at Starbucks for coffee and food after practice. I ordered a strawberry banana smoothie. It comes in at 280 calories, 6 grams of fiber and 15 grams of protein. The only bad thing is that it’s pretty high in sugar…so not an everyday indulgence but an okay breakfast/snack when you’re in a pinch.
Lunch at home was a sandwich with tomato, avocado and herb mayo on sourdough from Great Harvest. Carrots and a peach on the side. I am really going to miss tomatoes and peaches more than any other summer food.
Continuing my theme of disorganization, I forgot to pack a snack this afternoon so did the best with what I could scrounge up at work. Animal crackers dipped in peanut butter. Clearly, I am five years old. ๐
And then I went to change for BodyPump and realized that I neglected to pack a workout top. Luckily, there is a Target close to work and the Y so I ran over and grabbed a tank.
I got the C9 by Champion Women’s Babydoll Tank after seeing tons of other bloggers wear it. It is okay but definitely not as comfortable or functional as the Lulu tops that I usually wear. I like that it’s loose around the belly (although it does look kind of maternity-esque) but it rubbed a little uncomfortably around the chest/shoulders when I was teaching.
I had a personal training client after BodyPump and then came home and got to baking and cooking. We are going to a cookout tomorrow and I’m in charge of dessert. I made salted fudge brownies and peanut butter chocolate chip bars!
Late night dinner (10 p.m.!!!) was a big quinoa bowl with zucchini, mushrooms, garlic, tomatoes and kalamata olive. Topped with feta and plain Greek yogurt on a bed of spinach.
I’m off to find my heart rate monitor. I got into a discussion last night with some of my yoga friends about heart rate and calorie burn in my teacher’s hot vinyasa and super flow classes so I am testing it out by wearing my HRM. He said he’s making it extra hard so I need to rest up! Bring it! ๐
What do you have special plans for the long weekend?
***HAPPY FRIDAY!!!!!****
Ohhh! I’ve always wondered how many calories you burn in a hot vinyasa class!!! Keep us updated!
I always keep the starbs smoothie in the back of my mind for traveling and in-a-pinch meals!! you can always find a starbucks, but you can’t always find a healthy meal option (ie in southern airports like i was last week!)
love your blog! <3
I’m excited to hear how many calories you burn! I have two of those Champion tanks and they rub me around the arm pit area sometimes ๐
Jen,
I am interested in the HR results for hot vinyasa, will you post?
Once again your sandwich looks amazing!
I agree on the Sbux drink. I find very often there.. and other places.. the drink is great except for the sugar count. Everyone is on the low-fat, low-cal kick but companies have yet to embrace reducing sugar.
Going to the pool one last time this weekend before it closes ๐
Happy Friday!!
Peaches are great, but I am so looking forward to the fall and apple picking. ๐
This weekend I only have Sunday off but we’re going out to celebrate my sister in law’s birthday!
I got the same workout top from Target and it rubbed me on the back–I’m so sad about that because I love the color! Happy Friday! Looooong weekend–WOHOO!
I don’t own that top from Target but I don’t think I would like it. I actually prefer more form-fitting shirts that don’t get in the way (like Lulu!).
No plans here (YAY!), except for a BBQ!
Have a great Labor Day!
I’m also not a fan of that top even during pregnancy. Have a great weekend, Jen ๐
i wore my HR monitor once in Yoga. I will never do it again though, it was too distracting for me, haha.
Happy weekend lovely. Enjoy some down time and B time!
I LOVE that tank… but that’s partly because it’s one of the only things that fits me right now! Fortunately I haven’t had any of those rubbing issues so I guess I got lucky!
Sounds like you had a busy but fun first day of fall. ๐ We are visiting family in CT for the long Labor Day weekend. Amazing how different the weather is here… we are loving it!
A strawberry banana smoothie from Starbucks is an awesome way to start September!
I’d be really curious to hear your HR stats if you don’t mind sharing!
