Hola…my intent was to publish this post last night while I was on the couch eating takeout and drinking a glass of wine but I got sidetracked by HGTV and catching up on reading other blogs. So here is my “What I ate and how I worked out out Wednesday” on a Thursday!
I subbed a 6:30 a.m. yoga class for a friend and then swung by Whole Foods on my way into work to pick up a mega-sized double green (strawberries and blueberries instead of mixed berries and add almond butter) and a coffee. Newsflash: I have decided that Whole Foods coffee is hands down 100% tastier than Starbucks. Unfortunately, Starbucks usually wins for me due to convenience and the Gold Card Rewards but I do love the taste of Whole Foods coffee so much more.
Lunch was half of a turkey sandwich with tomatoes, arugula, tarragon mayo and muenster cheese on sourdough. Pink lady (<– the best!) apple slices and pretzel chips on the side.
I was auditioning a new CrossFit coach yesterday afternoon so I got to take class instead of teach it. The WOD was pretty much straight cardio. I have yet to master the stringing of multiple double unders together so I did 400 singles for the first 200 and thought my calf muscles might fall off my body. I tried to DU for the second 100 but I seriously thought my heart was going to beat out of my chest and explode so I went back to singles. I finished in a little over 20 minutes. This is a really good workout whether you CrossFit or not. Try it! Sub 2:1 or 3:1 singles for the doubles.
I had the pleasure of taking another yoga class from Johnna Smith after CrossFit last night and down dog was just what my tight legs needed after that WOD. Class was fun, light hearted and perfectly challenging. Two days in a row of Johnna…I am a lucky, lucky girl!
I was in the mood for something ethnic for dinner after yoga so I ordered takeout from Vietnam Grille. I had heard SO MUCH about their #33 Bun from fellow foodies so I finally gave it a try. The “bun” is a traditional Vietnamese rice noodle dish. The #33 features grilled chicken, jumbo shrimp, meatballs and crispy spring rolls along with cucumber, sprouts crushed peanuts and fish sauce. I also gave mine a healthy dose of chili sauce for some fire. The verdict? I’m so happy I tried it and while I’m 100% back on the bandwagon of eating meat again this was a little too much meat for me. I loved the flavors in the dish and I’m glad I ventured out of pho-territory. I will definitely return to Vietnam Grille and try some of their other specialties!
Vietnamese food…love it, not so much or never tried it??? And if you do love it…what are your faves?
I have yet to master double unders…but holy cow you did 400 regular??? No wonder your calves were on FIRE! Supposedly Houston has some really yummy Vietnamese food, so I cannot wait to try some. It has been a really long time since I have had it. Happy first of the month and here is to a month of “blooming”!
I live in an area with a lot of Vietnamese restaurants and it is one of my favorite cuisines. I especially love their grilled pork over some vermicelli. The noodles are cold and it’s a nice light meal , especially during the summer. I also love banh mi, the Vietnamese sandwich. You just have to ask them to go light on the mayo; the pickled vegetables in there are so good. Great now I am craving Vietnamese:)
Totally with you on the Whole Foods coffee! Cheaper than Starbucks too – at least in Vancouver. And I am TERRIBLE at double unders! Something I should practice.
Never tried it, but not opposed. I’ll try anything once! Won’t know til ya try it 😉
Oh, I love love love Bun but that’s definitely more meat, proportionally, than I’m used to. Overall it’s such a refreshing meal in the summer. I usually just make my own; pretty easy and tasty! Now I want to add that to my menu for next week, ha.
how do you do your own?
I love those pretzel crisps! I can barely keep my hand out of the bag. And Whole Foods Coffees and Smoothies are THE best hands down!! Love them! (:
your posts always make me wish i was closer to a whole foods… my wallet, on the other hand, does not 🙂
yes, be grateful for that x1,000,000. the whole foods portion of my mint.com account is scary!
Pink Lady apples are my absolute favorite.
I’ve never tried Vietnamese, but would like to.
Our Whole Foods only charges $1 for coffee if you bring your own mug. Love it!
i asked about a mug discount today and our WF only does 15 cents off. boo! you’ve got it good!
I adore Vietnamese food. It’s light and refreshing without the heavy feel that Chinese sometimes has. We have several here in my city and one of my favorite dishes is a Vietnamese Chicken Salad. It’s light and has a lime vinaigrette that I crave!
i’ll have to check and see if our local restaurants have a similar dish!
First, this is my first – post/reply to your blog… that I have been reading for a couple of weeks now! I enjoy your blog and find it inspirational! I ate meat for the first time in a while yesterday as well in a Korean place in Manhattan… I was reluctant at first but did enjoy the crispy chicken rice bowl. I would like to try Vietnamese food as well… I’m hoping they have a tofu or veggie dish!
nicole – thanks for taking the time to leave a comment and for reading. glad to hear you’re enjoying my blog!
i don’t know that i’ve ever been to a korean restaurant. glad you had a good experience!
Yum! I haven’t tried that restaurant yet, but it looks like I need to add it to my list. Have a great weekend!
