This morning started with a 4:55 a.m. alarm for a 5:30 a.m. training client. Surprisingly enough, I bounded out of bed and felt great. My client has been sick/traveling so this was our first 5:30 a.m. in several weeks. Time to get back in the groove! I had another client at 6:30 a.m. and then headed over to Y2 to teach the 8:10 and then practice ashtanga.
WARNING: CUTENESS OVERLOAD AHEAD.
When I got home it was bath time for Sullie. She’s been SO itchy lately with all the pollen and things that are blooming and she’s shedding like ca-razy so a bath was in order. She’s the most pathetic thing in the bath and just stands there hanging her head acting like I’m torturing her while I tell her what a good girl she is. Once she’s out of the bath she’s a wild woman. She takes off and face plants into the floor while she rolls around and grunts. It’s pretty special. She’s been giving me these eyes all day and has been extra rambunctious. She tried to go roll in the dirt in the yard but thankfully I stopped her before all was lost.
After everyone recovered from bath time (self included…I had to bathe myself, clean the bathroom and vacuum after that chaos), I made a big kale salad with tahini dressing. This was an amazing and delicious combo of colors, tastes and textures with kale, arugula, cucumbers, tomatoes, apples, queso fresco, avocado, chick peas, pecans and dried cranberries. I love the tahini dressing I’ve been playing around with. I’ll share soon!
And a few other things I’ve been cooking up…
Pepper jelly and brie chicken with shredded brussels sprouts and applewood smoked bacon. I used a variation of this recipe for the chicken but didn’t pound it out and used pepper jelly instead of apricot.
FISH TACOS! This is the best meal I’ve made in weeks! Tacos included sauteed sole, queso fresco, a lime cream sauce, avocado and slaw mix in corn tortillas. I served a Mexican-inspired quinoa on the side. I cooked tri-colored quinoa with sauteed onion, a can of fire roasted tomatoes, corn and some spices. Kind of a variation of my Mexican Quinoa recipe without the black beans. It was super tasty! I can’t wait to eat fish tacos many more times this spring/summer!
I made this Dijon/Soy pork tenderloin for my client who I cook for along with spiced roasted sweet potatoes and steamed broccoli.
And I also made him chicken pad thai. I need to make this for myself soon (and share the recipe with y’all!).
Have a lovely day!
Does your pet love or hate baths? Do they act crazy after?
What’s the best thing you’ve cooked lately!?
Hi Jen! How did you make the lime cream sauce for the fish tacos? Thanks!
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup sour cream
1 tablespoons fresh lime juice
1/2 teaspoon lime zest
Salt, to taste
Our black lab loved the water any way she could get to it. Our boxer puppy – not so much – you would think we were torturing her. Your salads look deicious! Noreen
so sullie loves the water and swimming but just doesn’t love baths. i think labs in general (and goldens) are water lovers!
All your food looks so delicious!
My pup hates baths and also hangs her head like she’s being tortured the whole time!
I NEED to make those fish taco’s asap. I’m obsessed with fish taco’s! What is queso fresco??
The best things I have been cooking are scrambles and stir fry! They are so easy and great to add a variety of veggies!
love scrambles! great way to “clean out the fridge” and use veggie remnants.
I dont bathe my dogs often, only if they roll in something particularly awful or get sprayed by a skunk – the vet does not recommend it. I do give my biggest dog a bath once a year when shedding season ends. Was kinda wondering why you bathe Sullie so often. If someone is itchy I generally get an allergy shot for them or benadryl. My hound dog is particularly fond of rolling in icky things but I use a dry shampoo for her.
hi trish – i was really surprised to read this comment. sullie is 8 and we have never had a vet who has advised us against bathing her, quite the opposite. we bathe her every 2-3 months with a very gentle, soothing shampoo/conditioner. i did some research online and the general consensus is to bathe goldens once a month…so we’re at the far end of that spectrum.
and about the Benadryl/allergy shot thing, i see your point but my skin would also be itchy if it was really dirty. sullie spends a good amount of time outside and running/walking with me. and she LOVES to roll around in the leaves/dirt/grass/etc. i think she feels good when she’s clean. sometimes i can visibly see dirt on her skin on the belly and she chews at the spots.
I used to bathe my parrot when he had bird lice. He hated it.
REALLY!? tell me more about this!
We give our golden fish oil tablets. Just one at night when I take mine and it really helps her coat and her itching. Especially during the warmer months when she gets hot spots. Food looks DELISH!!
i give sullie fish oil every day too. trying to avoid the hot spots this summer. those are NO FUN!
oh so dramatic Sullie! 🙂 Maizey broke out in hives when she was 9 weeks old and I gave her an oatmeal bath to sooth her skin. And ever since, she has LOVED baths. It’s hilarious. It definitely a production with all her hair and then trying to get her out of the tub without slipping too much, but she’s pretty sweet during the washing.
Oh my gosh ! I have a 60 pound Labraoodle who does the exact same thing. He is meek and mild when we bathe him and hangs his head but then afterwards he is a complete madman jumping up-and-down off the couch and running in circles like crazy!!
Kala would give me the same look and yes she would totally get frisky after! I swear all golden retrievers are the same. Sullie is so stinking cute…that look! I cannot get enough of brussel sprouts and fresh avocado these days. Cannot wait for you to share that salad dressing! 🙂
Hi Jen,
Would you be willing to share you recipe for tahini dressing? Thank you !
Emily
Love the pics of Sullie! My dog does not like to bathe so much so, that we have to send him to a groomer to do it!
I loved this post! If you’re a golden owner, there is just nothing cuter than a golden puppy (big or small)! After baths my golden, Sydney, loves to go outside and roll in the grass too! Love seeing sweet pictures of Sullie and your food looks delish!
Waking up super early with lots of energy is the best feeling. It definitely didn’t describe me todaya though for my 5:30 am client lol. My dogs tolerate baths, but don’t particularly like them.
I made Pork lentil stew Yesterday for the first time in my life, I threw everything I could think of in there, carrots, celery, onions, red peppers, adobo chilies, sweet potatoes and fresh corn, topped with greek yogurt…was AMAZING!
I will definitely be taking advantage of the fish taco recipe, kind of obsessed with fish tacos and as many healthy ways I can find to make them!
Haha, my dogs ALWAYS are crazy after baths! That’s so funny – but they definitely are NOT fans of getting wet. I did not get a water dog 🙂
And YES I’d love that chicken pad thai recipe!!! 🙂 Yummy!
