Well, it’s cloudy, raining and unseasonably cool for July in Charlotte again this weekend. It’s a trend this summer. I’m seriously not kidding.
– Rain has fallen somewhere in Mecklenburg County daily since June 23.
– Since June 1, more than 11.7 inches has fallen at Charlotte Douglas International Airport, Charlotte’s official measuring station. That compares to 5.18 inches in an average year during that time.
– Rain has fallen on 79 of the 192 days so far this year in Charlotte. That puts us on pace for the 10th-highest number of rainy days in a year.
– Thanks to the rain and clouds, we’ve had only four 90-degree days this year in Charlotte. The record for the smallest number of 90-degree days is eight. So we’re likely to finish with one of the smallest number of 90-degree days in a single year.
This is the craziest summer weather that I have ever experienced in the South! I’m trying my best to get over the gray, gross, humid, terrible-hair inducing weather. I’ve given up on straightening my hair and have received several, “I didn’t know your hair was curly” comments this week.
Enough weather…here’s what life has been looking like around here. It’s been a few days since I’ve checked in with y’all.
Friday lunch was a portobello wrap with spinach, hummus, feta and sundried tomatoes. I love this wrap from
Reid’s!
I took a friend’s hot yoga class on Friday afternoon and then walked over to Total Wine for their Friday evening wine tasting (hot yoga + wine tasting is definitely an appropriate Friday activity). I appreciate that they have really affordable bottles open and was pleased to discover a new white wine that I love. I usually do not go for whites but this Vouvray was amazing and ended up being the inspiration for Friday night dinner.
I spent the evening in the kitchen and made a baked lemon-thyme mushroom risotto, roasted broccoli and seared sea scallops with a wine and herb pan sauce. I drizzled the risotto with a basil infused olive oil and the scallops with a 25 year aged balsamic. I received both from a friend as a birthday gift and finishing the dish with them definitely took it to a different level
I got myself out of bed and to CrossFit at 8 a.m. this morning to do this WOD. My body does not respond great to early morning CrossFit. I do much better CrossFitting later in the day when my body is warm and more with it. Anyway, I powered through it all and then flew off the pull up bar and landed square on the right side of my butt/hip on my third to last pull up. It happened so fast but I guess I just lost my grip. I feel so lucky that I didn’t break an arm or anything but my booty is definitely bruised and sore (as is my pride!). I got up and walked around to check out the damage and seemed okay so I finished the last two pull ups and the 30 thrusters. Pull up accident aside…this is a great WOD and took me a little over 20 minutes with a 55# bar.
Post CrossFit and yoga smoothie from Whole Foods.
Double Green with blueberries instead of mixed berries, add almond butter. SO GOOD.
Given my
stance on kindness, I had to have this tank that we just got in at the studio. I brought it home with me after teaching an afternoon class and sported it to Whole Foods looking the total part of yoga hippie with a wooden necklace and skinny rolled up jeans. 😛
I picked up baking supplies at Whole Foods and then came home and got busy in the kitchen. Recipes coming soon.
Hope it’s a sunshine-filled, happy weekend for y’all!

The whole East Coast is experiencing this crazy rainy humid unseasonable weather. I am up in Jersey and what you are describing is exactly what’s happening here too! It sucks not being able to enjoy the outdoors when it is the Summer!
Same story up here in Boston! I feel like all my summer plans have been affected by weather so far, huge bummer!
I live 80 miles from Panama City Beach, Fl. The rain has been like EVERY day! So crazy! Our lawn is growing so fast we can’t keep it cut!
I LOVE your “Kindness” shirt! And the wooden mala necklace.
I’m a little intimidated by Crossfit.
Can’t wait to try your recipe.
Girl, I am with you on this summer rain-crap. I am over it in a big way. This is the first year of my life since I was an intern in the summer of 2000 where I have lived somewhere with a pool. And now, the weather is so sucky there hasn’t even been a reason to use it!
I was strolling around in rolled-up skinny jeans earlier today wondering what has happened to me. Gawd, we are turning into HIPPIES!!!!
P.S. I saw last year’s Cross Fit games on ESPN2 this afternoon and could not. Look. Away. I’m having a ridiculously hard time finding cool, like-minded people my age to hang out with here so I am – for the first time ever – seriously considering popping into one of the 3 local CF gyms this week. Pray for me. Lol.
oh, oh, oh please let me know what you think. super interested to hear what a fellow bodypumper thinks!
Send all the rain you don’t want to Austin, TX! Pretty please? We will share some summer sun with ya. Love the tank.
I LOVE your shirt and necklace! Where did you get it? AND can we buy shirts from your gym?
Oh my gosh, this summer has been brutal. I moved here from Minneapolis so this is my first summer summer here and it has been a tough one. I probably should just remove the Minneapolis weather from my phone as I just torment myself by seeing all the sun I am missing out on. I hope the weather changes soon!!
The east coast has had a really weird summer as well! Lots of grey, dark, humid, rainy days…It’s been sunny down in Houston…hot of course…but I’m not complaining. I need that sunshine. LOVE LOVE LOVE that necklace…where did you get it…It’s gorgeous! XOXO
I feel ya about the weather! I just moved to Augusta, GA where I was told “it rarely rains” and now I am getting flash flood alerts on my phone almost everyday! Can’t wait till this is all over!
Ouch!! Glad you didn’t get hurt!!! Sounds like a great wod, and those baked goods look incredible!
I’m starting to wonder if it’s been unseasonally cool everywhere! I live in southern Alberta and our summers are usually hot & dry, but it’s been rainy & stormy for weeks. Not impressed!
I love that yogi shirt & necklace so much! 😀
I need that shirt and necklace please let me know where I can get it!!
Risotto recipe coming soon?!?
