I don’t know about you but the Olympics sure are motivating me to work extra hard in the gym.
Yesterday’s workout involved lots of fun with kettlebells, sled pushes and dragging a plate across the turf by walking on my hands. It was amazing and I am so sore today!
I find a killer playlist to be incredibly motivating to get me through tough runs and workouts. I thought I would share some of my recent favorite finds.
You’ll notice that the third song is from This Song Is Sick. It’s a really cool blog with all kinds of crazy remixes of songs. You have to dig a little to find things you like (there is SO much content) but it’s a fun site. If you scroll down the right sidebar there’s a section called “Sick Playlists” and some of the stuff under “Banger” is good. I also like Mash Stix for music mashups. This site is a little easier to navigate.
I feel like I’m always downloading music for workouts and to use in classes so I’ve had to get a little creative with my sources. I get so over of all the mainstream stuff on iTunes so I’ve gotten more into remix and dance type stuff recently.
Hope y’all like some of this!
Some eats…
Sunday night dinner was sautéed flounder over the rest of my veggie couscous mix with roasted okra and sliced tomatoes.
Banana and peach oatmeal for breakfast at 6:30 a.m. today. I woke up starving.
Tempeh, avocado, spinach, tomato and cheddar on sourdough for lunch today. I was on a huge tempeh kick and now it’s just not doing much for me. I think I burned out on it.
And cupcakes, so many cupcakes.
Have a great week!
Yum! Those cupcakes look super pretty!
Woah – that first exercise looks ridiculous! I think I may try that just using a book and dragging it across my living room/workout area.
Thanks for the suggestion for tunes! I’m always looking for new workout songs!
Love the pretty cupcakes!!! Sled pushes are my favorite 🙂
I burn out on foods so easy. I’ll make a huge pot of veggie chili for the week ahead and be over it by the third day. haha
I love a good playlist! I keep changing mine up but “Comeback Kid” always remains. So good! I’ll have to try the others out soon.
BTW – Brad recently began Cross-Fit! I’m not sure what hurts him the most, the pain from the workout or realizing that he’s not living in a 21 year-old’s body anymore. 🙂
that’s awesome. starting out with crossfit is an eye-opening and humbling experience. hope he’s loving it! 🙂
I’m always looking for good workout songs, so please post lists like these more often!
will do when i get good new playlists!
It’s so hard to get stuck in food ruts and end up burning out. I find that I do this a lot when it comes to my protein sources and smoothies. I’ll get stuck on one kind of fish or pb/banana/spinach smoothies and after a week never want to see them again (well except for PB. Let’s face it, who can get sick of PB??). Those cupcakes look cute! 🙂
I remember winning your Mumford and Sons CD giveaway before they were really popular. It was fun to be introduced to new music then so I’ll definitely have to check out these new sites
this is not music of the mumford variety…you inspired me to do another post on music today though with my everyday faves. thanks! 🙂
That sounds like an awesome workout!
The cupcakes looks so pretty! Every time I try to frost cupcakes like that it just turns into a big, ugly blob, but delicious blob nonetheless.
i use the williams sonoma mechanical pastry bag. it works great and so easy to use!
Olympics are so motivating. Love the music too.
Thank you for the mention… appreciate the love. It’s kind of funny but there’s been a good number of personal trainer/fitness people who’ve emailed me telling us that they use our mashes in their classes. Keep up the good work!

your mashups are VERY well known at the yoga studio where i teach/practice. it’s pretty crazy! thanks for putting it all out there for us.
Oh my goodness the olympics ARE motivation. I casually admitted to my trainer last night that I used to want to be a gymnast (who didn’t?), which then caused him to repeat that while I suffered through the end of my workout alternating between box jumps and burpees. I was looking quite lovely by the end!
that is so awesome! coincidentally our croffit workout today happens to be burpee box jumps so i will be feeling your pain!
I love your blog! Thanks for sharing such great recipes and workout ideas. I have been thinking about buying a running watch, and I noticed you use the Garmin Forerunner 305. Do you like the watch, and would you recommend it (or the Forerunner 310)? Thanks!
hi abbie – thanks so much for reading! i love my garmin! if i were to buy another one now i would look for a smaller model though. mine is pretty clunky but i love the functionality.
Thanks, Jen! I’ll definitely choose one of the smaller Garmin running watchings. I appreciate the advice!
watches* 🙂
always looking for new and different music and sources for teaching classes- can’t wait to check on these! Thanks for sharing!
