Teacher training is DONE! Thank you for the congratulations and good wishes. I am kind of in disbelief right now that it’s over. It’s all still sinking in and I’m not quite ready to write my final thoughts on teacher training post. I promise it will come this week. I just want to have time to really reflect on the experience and to spend time writing a meaningful recap.
In the meantime, I do have some exciting news to share with you! I WILL BE TEACHING AT Y2 YOGA!
Starting this week! I have been given two classes and I couldn’t be more thrilled or feel more honored. I will definitely be sharing my experiences with teaching, especially these first few weeks.
Switching gears…let’s talk about running!
More specifically, the importance of replacing your shoes regularly. I am a little ashamed to admit that my last new pair of shoes was back in September! ๐ณ
I am totally devoted to Brooks Adrenaline. I have been running in this shoe for over five years and have gone through countless pairs. For some reason (probably because I haven’t been actively training for anything the last few months) I have put off getting new shoes even though I really needed them. I finally sucked it up and made the purchase last week and I can’t believe I waited so long!
I took them out for a spin this afternoon and it felt like running with cushy clouds on my feet.
Here are a few general guidelines for replacing your running shoes…
- The general rule of thumb is to replace your running shoes every 300-400 miles.
- Visual signs of wear out are broken down tread and shoes that bend really easily through the forefoot (a sign they have lost support and structure).
- You can get more mileage out of your shoes if you only wear them for running and not for day to day activities (I’m not good about this – I wear mine to teach my classes at the Y).
- Achy knees and shin splints are good indicators that it might be time to replace your shoes.
When in doubt, buy new shoes! And a quick reminder – always get fitted for shoes at a specialty running store if you are just getting started with running!
How often do you replace your running shoes? Are you loyal to one brand/model?
*One last fun running tidbit…PBR was listed today as one of the “Blogs we love that get you in the running mood” on Fitness magazine’s “The Fit Stop” blog!*
Finally, here are some of today’s eats.
Lunch was a veggie burger salad. Baby spinach, blue cheese, artichokes, sundried tomatoes, dried cranberries and a TJs veggie burger with a lemon/dijon/honey vinaigrette.
Dinner was buffalo shrimp tacos with blue cheese cole slaw. Brandon gets total credit for the idea to have this for dinner. It was super tasty! Refried beans on the side.
Now I’m having a scoop of butter pecan. ๐
Hope your week is off to a good start!
Congratulations! So amazing…and good luck teaching! I wish I lived down south so I could come to one of your classes ๐
Congrats! You will be an amazing teacher I am very sure of it ๐
I just bought new running shoes(which was WAY overdue). I always buy asiacs, they are my favorite brand for running shoes.
Congrats!!!
And those tacos sound so delish! I’ll definitely have to do more with shrimp and buffalo sauce!
Congrats on becoming a yoga instructor!! Too bad I can’t stop by Y2 Yoga to take a class of yours! But good luck & congrats! xo
Thank you so much, Jenna! I really appreciate the blog shout out and your comment!
Congrats! I’m definitely going to try to come to one of your yoga classes when I’m in Charlotte visiting my in laws! ๐
Awesome, Jessica!!! Please give me a shout when you’re here!
I am hopelessly devoted to Asics 21series. I have tried every other, more expensive shoe out there and I keep coming back! They may be the one thing I love buying that’s actually under budget!
๐
I usually replace my running shoes every 500 miles (sometimes more!). But I am not loyal to one brand or model. Lately I’ve switched it up between Asics, Saucony, and Mizunos.
I have most definitely been going that long in between too! It would be awesome if I could replace every 300-400 miles but it’s just so expensive!!!
CONGRATS Jen!! You deserve it, and I SERIOUSLY wish I lived in Charlotte and could come to your classes!! ๐
And I’M GETTING BROOKS ADRENALINES!! I’ve just developed shin splints through having the wrong pair of shoes, so got a fitting and will be getting those! So glad to hear how much you love them! ๐
Emma – you will love the Adrenalines. They are a fabulous shoe. I have seriously had 10+ pairs!
Congrats! I am so excited to hear your reflections on this journey. I may be in Charlotte for a quick trip this summer. If I am, you bet I am going to come to Y2!
I am devoted to the Adrenalines, too. I loved the 9’s, 10’s, and now the 11’s. Although I needed a 1/2 size bigger in the 11’s because of some slight tweaks in the design. Great advice about going to a specialty store each time. These little tweaks in shoe design can make a difference.
Thanks for the congrats! I would LOVE to see you in class if you’re ever in CLT! ๐
I’m so happy that you brought up needing to go up a half size. I just bought my 11s and didn’t even try them on because I always get the same size. I was thinking on my run yesterday that they felt a little shorter than normal. I hope I don’t have an issue with them!
Overall, I think the 11s feel significantly different than past models. Apparently they are using a new material for cushioning. I still love them, just different!
Congratulations! Looking forward to your recap!
I’m a Brooks Adrenaline junkie too! I have the same pair. I’ll never run in any other shoe!
Congrats on becoming a yoga teacher – good luck your first week – you will do great!
congrats!! that is such an awesome accomplishment!
OMG Congrats Jen! I am so happy for you and cannot wait to take your classes ๐ You’re going to be awesome!
And you know I love my Brooks Adrenalines too. Best shoes ever!
Have you tried the 11s? They’re so different!
Oh yay!! This post is full of all sorts of amazingess!
Getting new shoes is super exciting, and I love the smell of them. That’s not weird, right?
That’s cool that Fitness magazine mentioned your blog!
Also where do you buy your workout/yoga tanks? I’ve had no luck with finding something that is comfortable.
Lori – most of my tanks are from lululemon. The one I have on in these pictures is the Power Y Tank. I have it in four colors – so comfortable! I like them because they are long and have built in bras with removable cups.
Thanks Jen!
Ahhhhh now I HAVE to come back to Charlotte for yoga!! I am SO HAPPY for you! ๐
We would LOVE to see you back. You are welcome ANYTIME!!!!!!!
Congrats on your Yoga certification!
Great post about replacing your running shoes; I started running seriously again a few weeks ago and my shoes were causing terrible pains in my knees and right hip…come to find out, I was in the wrong shoe! Mizuno Wave Alchemy’s saved them, and now I’m completely loyal!
Have a wonderful day! ๐
Sara – thanks for the congrats!
I can’t believe your shoes were causing that pain. It just goes to show how important being in the right shoe is!!!
Congrats Jen! I can’t wait to take one of your classes. ๐
Thanks Kelly! I can’t wait to see familiar faces in my classes! ๐
Jen,
Congrats! That is such exciting news. I am definitely going to come take one of your classes!
Thanks! You know I would love to see you in class! ๐
Congrats on the teaching job!!
Congrats! You will be an amazing teacher.
I just recently started running. I’ve never been fitted for shoes, but I’m starting to wonder if the ones I’m running in aren’t doing me any favors. Do you think it’s important for a beginning runner, even one who’s not logging many miles a week, to get fitted?
Hi Erin! Thanks for the congrats!
Even if you are only running a little, it is still important to be in the right shoe. There are different types depending on your feet and your gate mechanics. I think you should definitely get fitted!!!
awesome news–congratulations! i might have to move to charlotte just to take your classes–im sure my husband would think that was smart thinking! very happy for you.
I would love to see you in Charlotte! Definitely smart thinking! ๐
Thanks for the congrats!
Congrats on the love from Fitness magazine – very exciting ๐ Also congrats on finishing yoga teacher training; I know when I finish mine I’m not going to know what to do with myself on Wednesday nights when I don’t have to drive myself to training for the first time in 9 months. Teacher training is such an amazing process, glad yours ended with you getting a couple classes of your own!
Thanks Meghan! It’s a really weird feeling to be done. I think it will take a few weekends of me NOT having training for it to sink in that it’s really over. I can’t believe that I’m making the transition to a teacher now!
Hey Jen,
just found your blog! congrats on becoming a yoga teacher!! Yeah! I’m also a devoted Brooks Adrenaline girl. I used to only run in Nike Structure Triax, but after I had my son, my body changed and I switched to the adrenaline.
Maia – so happy that you found my blog! Thanks for the congrats! Interesting how your feet change when you are pregnant – I’ve heard that from several people!
Congratulations on the teaching job!! Can’t wait to come and visit Charlotte. ๐
I’m usually buying sneakers between 400-500 miles. And I’m pretty loyal to asics brand.
Yes, please come visit! How fun would it be if all of us could finally meet!!!?
I usually stretch 400-500 miles too!
Congrats on your yoga teaching and for being featured on the Fitness website! You are awesome, you deserve it! ๐ I just bought that same Lulu top. Love the color!
Thank you for the congrats Kayli!!!
I’m loving the new snorkel blue color too! ๐
