Is anyone else totally mixed up on the days after having Christmas fall in the middle of the week along with travel? I can’t believe the weekend is almost over and it’s time for the weekly workout recap. The last few days have felt like one long stretch of weekend although I am not complaining about that. I have slept 8+ hours for the past four nights in a row….and I feel AMAZING.
Let’s talk a little yoga…the combo of finishing the September Hashtanga Instagram Challenge, training for and running the Thunder Road Half Marathon and getting a puppy pretty has put a damper on posting as many yoga pictures and videos on Instagram as I typically do.
But lately I have been spending so much time in the yoga studio lately teaching and practicing whenever I can (which will be even more in the new year) that it’s left me inspired. I have been wanting to get more creative with transitions and sequencing for my classes and also to challenge myself again when it comes to my personal practice.
Here are two transitions I have been working on over the last week.
This is figure four to figure four arm balance to tripod headstand and back to figure four arm balance on the opposite leg.
And I love, love, love this transition from twisted mountain climber arm balance to double leg chin stand that you see in the first two poses of this video. I have had fun working on this in my practice over the last week. The last two poses you see in this video are flip dog to revolved side plank. I think revolved side plank is a pretty made up pose that has become popular with teachers in Charlotte but it feels amazing. Try it!
And here’s a look at this week’s workouts.
Monday
5 rounds:
400 meter sprint
30 kettlebell swings
20 wall balls
30 ab mat sit ups
20 jump lunges
This workout was surprisingly tough and took me 30+ minutes to complete. Those rep totals come to 150 KBS and sit ups and 100 wall balls and jump lunges. This was an awesome blend of cardio and strength.
Tuesday
Hot yoga
Wednesday
1 mile run to warm up + strength + MetCon (metabolic conditioning)
Strength:
30 pull ups
30 deadlifts (115#)
30 back squats (95#)
MetCon:
12 minute AMRAP (as many rounds as possible)
3 power snatch (55#)
6 burpees
9 supine toes to bar
I finished 10 rounds in 12 minutes.
Thursday (Christmas Day)
4.5 mile run
Friday
5 mile run
Saturday
Hot yoga + 2.5 mile walk
It was my first time walking both girls at the same time and they did great! 🙂
Sunday
TBD but probably a walk with the pups and/or a 3-5 mile run.
I’m totally screwed up, but kind of enjoying this rainy cold Sunday in Houston as I mentally prepare myself for getting back on track and prepping for another weird week. And YES to sleeping 8 plus hours. I did the same and it was AWESOME!
Those pups are adorable!!!! Happy holidays
Jen, both videos were the same on my feed. Also your blog kept sending me to the App Store without my wanting to go there. Thanks
Pam
Pam – I fixed the videos and have no idea about the app store???????
I also got sent to the App Store for a very colorful app called paint monsters. I clicked back to Safari and it was fine. Anyway, the videos are beautiful and I’m glad you had a nice holiday with your family.
That is so weird! Is it taking you there from the Instagram embedded videos????
Your yoga is so inspiring. I will never be able to do those postures, but seeing you do them gives me so much motivation to keep trying!
Jen, everything working great this morning! Awesome videos by the way! It was sending me to the app store through the blog. I was reading on my iPad. Thanks for fixing videos! I am going to work on both of those! Love the revolved side plank! Looks so expansive! Happy New Year to you! I still want to attend a workshop that you will be teaching in 2015!!!
I love seeing all your yoga videos and have been working on my practice a lot lately! I am wondering if you have any suggestions for a IG yoga challenge for newer yogis but still challenging.. i don’t know if that makes sense.. but I’d love to join others interested in doing it!!!
