Hi there. I hope your week is off to a very good start. I enjoyed a rather slow start to the week after also having a slow weekend.
I met a girlfriend for a run this morning. We were both pushing strollers and our route was super hilly so our pace was slow (we both commented that it was our slowest pace running together ever…and we’ve been running together for 5+ years) but it was absolutely perfect.
The run felt really great. I shared this on Instagram and got some DMs back from people thanking me for sharing my slower run but also some saying this pace is their “regular/fast” pace. My biggest message to you all is that no matter the pace, no matter the distance…YOU ARE A RUNNER!
A run is a run and that’s that! Who cares whether it’s super fast or slow (for you)? What matters is how you feel and what it does for you. It’s the same as yoga…I can do handstands and I love them because of how they make me feel but WHO CARES if you can’t do one. We are all getting the same benefit from the practice. <3
There is way too much comparison that happens in this world. Focus on how you want to feel. xoxo
About that weekend…Friday was a busy day. I taught a class at 5:30 a.m., took a class, shuffled Finn around, had a headshot, ran errands, etc.
I haven’t had a headshot done in 3 years and had to take one for one of t he studios where I am teaching. I decided to treat myself to a blowout at Drybar before the shoot. Especially since my hair curling skills are at a solid zero.
The shoot went well but I was happy to be home and in my PJs by 6p on Friday!
It rained ALL DAY on Friday and Saturday. All the creatures in the house were getting a little stir crazy.
I took Finn to a new ALDI close to our house between his morning and afternoon naps. We needed a little outing. This was hands-down the nicest ALDI that I’ve ever been in. So big, spacious, open and bright. I also loved that you walk into the produce area and not shelves. Finn had a fun time!
The rain finally stopped for long enough on Saturday evening that I was able to get the crew out for a walk.
One of the best hacks I have learned from my Instagram friends is socks for baby mittens.
Sunday morning started with more rain but gave way to sunny skies around noon.
I got everyone out for a really long afternoon walk. The sunshine felt amazing after such a long stretch of gray and rainy weather.
Guys…that is seriously all I did over the weekend. And on this Monday I didn’t even leave my house until 5:30p. I made myself go take a slow, stretchy yoga class before I picked Finn up from spending some time with his dad.
I fully own that I am a homebody but I am also 100% okay with that.
Do you prefer to have a lot of weekend plans or to stay close to home?
Favorite rainy day activities? Especially those that entertain kids!?
I will forever be a homeboy and I LOVE it. My neighborhood got a brand new Aldi a couple weeks ago and it’s wonderful! So many awesome organic finds.
Nice perspective on your own running pace. With SM there is so so much compassion going on but for me I have struggled with the comparison of my prior self. I’m 52 now and I’ve been running solid for 17 years. All of my time PRs are behind me and I admit I had a hard time accepting that but aging is a privilege and I’m so beyond grateful that I GET to run everyday. I now have a new set of goals and I’m A-OK with them. <3
What a wonderful point on comparison to your “prior self.” I totally get that but it sounds like you have a very positive mindset around celebrating health and movement. Thank you for sharing that.
I’ve become such a homeboy since having my son and I LOVE it! I would much rather spend time at home with him then out dealing with public. I saw your Instagram last night but thank you agian for sharing it! “There is way too much comparison that happens in this world. Focus on how you want to feel.” <- This is everything!!! I couldn't agree more <3
Homebody not homeboy!!!
Thank you so much Nikki! 🙂
We mostly stick to staying at home on the weekends – especially in the winter. This past weekend I got home from work around 4:00 on Friday and didn’t leave my house until I had to go to work on Monday morning – granted we were in a blizzard all weekend and got 10 inches of snow and I couldn’t have left if I wanted to.
Being at home all weekend with 2 kids we built forts, baked, made slime, played with play doh, did puzzles, painted with finger paint, played with flour (their favorite), took baths to play in, and read lots of books.
Oh gosh, I wouldn’t want to leave the house either with 10 inches of snow. I kind of like the “forced staying in” sometimes like we had with all of our rain. It just makes being home feel extra cozy. Thank you for sharing your activities! I love the flour idea. What do they like to do with it?
I’ve turned into more of a homebody than I ever thought I would after I had my son in October! I’m naturally an extrovert, but staying home with him (especially since he was a preemie and we’re still in flu/RSV season) feels best right now. This is another area where I feel so much comparison – I see other moms taking their little babies out on adventures and sometimes feel like I should be doing the same. So thank you for encouraging us to give ourselves some grace to do what feels right instead of wasting energy comparing ourselves! Your weekend sounds lovely, and pretty similar to ours!
Hey Megan – congrats on your little guy! I can totally see your desire to keep him close to home given that he was a premie and how much yucky stuff is going around. I would do the same! Gosh, one thing I have quickly learned about this mom thing is that no one does it exactly the same…and there is no one way to do it! It truly is best if you can trust your intuition and drop the comparison. It’s crazy-making! I know that is easier said than done but you are doing what is best for you and your babe!
I’m totally a homebody and I love it. I get so bummed when I have a bunch of weekend plans and very little time to decompress at home. Who am I kidding, there’s not much decompressing at home with three kids, but I still love being home, comfy, and all together!
Aw, I think home sounds perfect full of your three kiddos and the craziness that comes with it!
Love being home. Really enjoy getting out for a walk with the puppy or for an hour or so to work out, but I enjoy not “having” to leave my house some days!!!!
Yes! This is me…I like to get some fresh air and move a little by walking or running in the neighborhood! 🙂
My heart just wants to burst from all that Finn-cuteness! Oh that smile he gives – he’s the happiest little guy and couldn’t be any cuter!
Aw, thank you so much! He is such a happy baby and I count my blessings for him every day!
Oh, I’m a total homebody. Sometimes I feel like I should go out more, but why? I have everything I need right here ?
I love this. Yes, everything we need right at home. It’s nice when home feels like a haven.
homebodies unite! especially with this winter…so much snow and below freezing temps. nope.
loved this post 🙂
YES! It doesn’t snow or get really cold here BUT the winter season definitely has more of a “cozy at home” vibe to it!
